Well, I just got over a bout of the flu (yes, the flu, it wasn't anthrax. I swear!)
I got a week off of work, but I didn't get to enjoy it. At least I caught up on some reading.

Hurray for Adequacy
I don't get sick very often, so when I do, it's that much more unpleasant. What makes it worse is that I don't just get sick. Rather, I get deathly sick, and it always hits me by suprise. In this case, I was minding my own business tuesday morning when all of a sudden I got extremely light-headed. If I had been 30 seconds slower in getting to a chair to sit I think I would have passed out then and there. Instead I only wound up taking a 2 hour nap. (Something I haven't done since grade school, excluding when I'm sick)

I won't go into any details about my suffering, just suffice it to say that I would have rather been at work. At least I have fun there. It actually got so bad that I could hardly eat. It wasn't because looking at food made me sick (just a little uneasy), I just didn't have the energy. I'd take one bite and have to rest for a few minutes before continuing. All I could do was sit on the couch, watching tv and reading. I think I saw more television in the last week than I have in the last 2 years. As I said above, though, I finally got mostly caught up in my reading.

Since I started working here I haven't had the time to read as much as I used to, but I continued getting new books for a little while, often buying 2 or 3 for every one I finished. I could have handled that while I was still in college, where I could finish at least a book a week and still maintaining an active social life and a part time job. (School has always been a joke for me. I sure miss it....) Now the only time I normaly have to read is at night before I go to sleep, an old habit from before high school. I find that I sleep much better if I read until I can't keep my eyes open anymore, rather than lie in bed waiting for sleep to come. Anyway, I managed to clear out most of the backlog, finishing 5 of the 8 books left on the pile. I've already started 2 of the remaining 3 also, so it likes like I might be paying a visit to the local bookstore sometime in the near future.

Meanwhile, I wasn't getting any work done. When I got back this morning, I was faced with the same problem that's been fraying my last nerve since before I got sick. Fortunately, getting away from it awhile must have helped me to think around it, because I managed to make some significant progress on it today. Unfortunately, my solution isn't quite working yet, probably out of spite. And since the deadline is rapidly approaching, I'll be working some pretty late hours trying to catch up. (Just when I thought I'd actually hit a deadline early....)

I need a vacation
