Things only seem good in retrospect; Everything sucks while it happens

So the site of endless intellectualism through wanking is down, so for the moment, I'm forced to wank alone. I'm waiting on a conference call I have at 6:00 PM. 6-Fucking-PM on a Friday. Fucking Time Zones. I'll be lucky to get out of here by seven, home by eight, and then I'll need to catch some sleep to prepare for a hard night of drinking. At this rate, the harsh nectar of nature shall not touch my thirsty lips until after 9PM. But I shall wait. For as a fierce a mistress as she may be, her intoxicating effects are worth enough to me to make up for any lamentation over the slow passage of time.

Realizations
For the order of the day, I'm pissed at my new broker. They can't get a damn thing right, it seems. I entered an buy order in my IRA three fucking times and it didn't go through. Called them and they said they had no record of it. Did it over the phone, cost me twice the commissions. Finally figured out how to make their fucking service do what it was supposed to when I put in my wife's IRA order, and their computers went down, and they had to call my wife and take her order over the phone too. Luckily they didn't charge broker-assisted rates for that, though. At least the commisions are cheap.

Tonight I think I'll call max and see if he wants to get wasted. Or maybe tommorow night. If he doesn't, I'll curse him out, because the lousy bastard was begging me to come drink with him last weekend, and all trying to guilt trip me and shit, when I just wanted to stay at home and get wasted with my wife. He said some shit about how he would need to study this weekend. Fuck that. I didn't study in college and neither should anybody else. Goddamn perpetual students anyway, he should have graduated by now. Commie Bastard.

Anyway, that's all. Probably should work now.

Who's the conference call with?

It'll only be 3PM over there. Hence my hatred of time zones.

Speaking of which, I only have 24 minutes. I really should throw together something to talk about.

What, do you work 20 hours a week or something? If I leave work at 6PM it counts as a short day... :((

Short days (none / 0) (#4)

I get to work at 7AM monday through friday. I also work every other saturday or so. Leaving at 6PM is not all that short a day. (and the point is, that it was a friday, and the call started at 6PM. could have gone on for much longer than it did, and cut significantly into my drinking time)

Sure it ain't nothing compared to the work of a sugar farmer in a third world country (like Russia), yadda yadda yadda, but I hate things cutting into my drinking time.

...the career of a sugar-cane grower in faroff Russia is so frustrating and unrewarding. The field is dying out. No one has any enthusiasm any more.

Anyway I want to know why Hammurabi can't start drinking right now. Certainly he, you, can handle your liquor, no? You all don't use videophones, do you? Not only could you swill right out the neck in the middle of the call, you could also at the same time take all your clothes off. Believe me it makes these tedious late night technical conference calls a lot more enjoyable.

Yeah, (none / 0) (#7)

But I have to drive home in the evenings, unfortunately. Regardless of how well I can behave normally while drinking, I have a personal standard to not drink at all when I intend to drive within the next twelve hours. This, of course, is about abiding by the law. In my previous job, I could take public transportation home, and I regularly kept a flask in my desk. But this one is off the bus line, so I am forced to remain sober.

The law, you see, supercedes all other desires.
