Well, I haven't visited this site for a while, because I've been trying out Windows XP. I must say I'm impressed. It's going to be funny waiting to see what the GUN/Linux advocates come up with next, since their "Windows is unstable" excuse is no longer valid (not that it has ever been valid since the release of NT 4).
Besides the usual cheesy Microsoftisms, XP is a nice desktop OS. It is no MacOS X, but it's close. And yeah, on the occasional energetic night you will still find me using Solaris. I'm also eagerly awaiting the arrival of Civilization 3 in stores. And I mean eagerly as like in a drug addict's eagerness. You see, I know no fucking video game is worth $50, but I can't resist buying it. It's an addiction. Okay, well, I can easily justify $50 if it is to further my entertainment. But it's not just $50 we're talking about, you see. A brief reading of the features of Civ 3 will show that there is NO MULTIPLAYER. Now this, in the internet age, is just not acceptable. But don't worry, it's just a scam. It WILL have multiplayer, just not in this version. What Firaxis is going to do is pull another Alpha Centauri on us. Yep, that's right. Charge us for a patch (see Alien Crossfire). So you will have to buy the game Civilization 3 *twice* to get multiplayer functionality which should have been in the first copy you bought. Oh yeah, and there are no scenarios in the first version -- they just happen to be oddly missing. But I'm sure the add-on you can buy will have several. Don't believe me? We'll see if I'm right in six months or so. But what right do I have to complain? I'm sure I'll get far more than $50 or even $100 worth of entertainment out of this game, so I should just shut up and pay up. ... In other totally unrelated news, I may or may not have been seen posting on this web site with a different name and different political ideology. While posting as a conservative is interesting, it has been done by many others, and often better than I could. Therefore, theoretically, I may have undergone a radical political change and even forgot my own name.
You see, it happened on a subway. It was dark and they had sharp pointy things. It changed me really. I'm a different man. When I look in the mirror in the morning I see someone else. When I use the toilet I see that it is not my toilet. Whose toilet is it? Why was this toilet put here? Who paid for this toilet? Can this toilet be justified by one with the modest income of a housewife and part-time fisherman? The answers lie in the Bible, they tell me... |
