Gender differences are a liberalist myth. (none / 0) (#1)
by tkatchev on Thu Dec 20th, 2001 at 02:06:06 AM PST
There really isn't any psychological differences between men and women -- what there is, is usually acquired during puberty, picked up from the rife social environment of the public school system.

Regardless, when you grow up and get married, these psychological differences tend to rub off.

In short, don't bother worrying about it.

"Psychology != Genetics".

That's what differentiates us from the chimps -- we make our own psychology.

you do not understand that genetics -> Heredity -> Environment.

Dude don't you read Popular Mechanics?

No, you do not understand. (none / 0) (#7)

Your claim that "genetics -> heredity -> environment" is not only false, it is also completely non-sensical.

Have you read the Bible? Specifically, Genesis? Everything is explained there in quite simple terms. If your sense of symbolism is atrophied, I can even translate it to liberalism-speak for you.

And please do not resort to ad-hominem attacks by calling me a liberal.

I think it is common knowledge that I am one of the few true conservatives on this board.

You on the other hand are just "trolling".

But I shall play your game.

God creates man.

God gives man free will and knowledge and power. <--Genetics.
Man uses free will on lineage. <--Environment.
You need to REPRESENT.

I won't even try to make sense of what you wrote there -- it must be some sort of liberalist mumbo-jumbo.

I'd just like to remind you that "U.S. liberal" != "liberalist". Liberalism is a destructive, secular ideology and religion; it can manifest itself in many political ways -- including very right-leaning political movements. ("Objectivism", for example.)

...And some believe that gender is a continnum, (5.00 / 1) (#3)
by chloedancer on Thu Dec 20th, 2001 at 07:17:08 AM PST
with what we ascribe as being the so-called "gender-specific traits" associated with being "female" at one extreme and "male" on the other, each of us occupying some ill-defined point in between that can change not only depending on the particular trait being examined, but also as our personalities change over time. Such gender-based distinctions are arbitrary and pointless, really.

Biologically, we're all the same for the first two months or so, anyhow. At 8 to 10 weeks, an embryo has neutral gonads with two duct systems (Mullerian and Wolffian). At about the 13th week of development, gonads differentiate in response to the so-called germ cell invasion. If the embryo has a XX (female) chromosomal combination, no hormones are released; Mullerian ducts develop into oviducts (Fallopian tubes), the uterus, and the upper portion of vagina; Wolffian ducts disappear without stimulation from testosterone. If an XY (male) chromosomal combination is present, gonads produce Mullerian duct inhibitor (MDI) which causes Mullerian duct to disappear; gonads produce testosterone which causes Wolffian ducts to develop into sperm-collecting apparatus - the epididymis, the sperm ducts (vas deferens), and the seminal vesicle; conversion of testosterone to dyhydrotestosterone (DHT) causes development of prostate gland.

What does this mean, all things considered? It's scientific proof that boys really do have "cooties" after all, since it's the "germ cell invasion" and the introduction of testosterone that are required to make an embryo "male". Active suppression of Mullerian duct development is also required to make a boy-child; all males start out as females unless the continued development of this already-present anatomy is supressed.

Me, I'm beautiful and sublime, really. I'm undeniably biologically female (as one friend puts it, I have "more curves than God intended to put in one place") with the "full meal deal" when it comes to gender-specific personality traits (it's the best of all worlds, truth be known). I made peace with my non-absolute point on the social characterics "gender continuum" a long time ago; living "inside the lines" is unnecessarily restrictive and boring, IMO.

And, for what it's worth, I've also been known as a causal agent for making post-pubescent men grow chest hair on at least three known occasions. Take that to mean whatever you wish. ;)

this country), they get greedy, and start taking more land than was given to them. palestinia retaliates, israel cries boohoo to america, the second largest concentration of jews being in america, and what do you know? israel are suddenly the victims of the *evil* palestinians who were fighting for what is rightfully theirs). anyways, all i can say is i hope you guys aren't serious.

So you bite them and they become werewolves as well?

I'm sure you made a good point there, but I couldn't find it.

I suppose it's just another case of a misplaced numerical pointer or some such. If intentional, however, it might just raise my esteem for you a notch or two... ;)

thank you for your comments. Women are indeed sublime, and men are indeed beautiful. Some lucky men and women are both sublime and beautiful. There may even be a few of these fortunates on Adequacy as I type. None of them are anonymous readers, however.
