I suppose this only proves what Adequacy has been saying about Lunix hackers all this time.

About the time. (none / 0) (#1)

This knowledge is out for long time already (as it goes in such cases). It's about the time it reaches the "civilian sector".

Efficient counter-threat systems are necessary. The only way to get the World to develop them beyond a toy stage is to create the need for them.
<P>
This is also a reason why I consider script kids to be a necessary part of the Net ecosystem. I feel much more comfortable with everyone having access to both the attack and defense tools, than when only the Three-Letters-Agencies have the attack tools and nobody in the civilian sector bothers with the defense.
<P>
Would we have the plethora of <A HREF="http://www.tripwire.org/">defense</A> <A HREF="http://www.snort.org/">tools</A> without the "harmless" threat? With absense of them, how would we respond to a serious, determined attacker?

In many cases it is better if you have both. What better way to protect yourself if you have a better understanding of the threat?
This document describes how to write parasitic file viruses infecting ELF executables on Linux/i386. Though it contains a lot of source code, no actual virus is included. Measurement is the foundation of science.
I don't how the author of the could consider this a LUnix low. I mean LUnix is a Unix-lite distribution (Little Unix) for old 8-bit computers. You think that all the Microsoftites would be thrilled about "The Linux Virus Writing HOWTO". Wait, I think I know why they're not.
Unfinished snapshot taken on 2002-03-15. I predict that today will be remembered until tomorrow.
Shows what peer review can really do.

"An official HOWTO".

I didn't bother reading the rest.
