There's no excuse for not changing one's oil filter at manufacturer-suggested intervals of 6 mos or 30,000 miles.

Maybe carrotrope2002 meant 6 months or 3,000 miles. Or 6 years and 30,000 miles. I don't know. According to this, the average U.S passenger car travels about 11,000 miles per year.

As an aside, I would have benefited from more general advice to pay attention to one's oil, having blown up an engine trying to drive to Alaska. I did meet some nice mounties, though. They weren't looking for hackers then (this was a few years ago).
