I have been out of the loop for a while - mostly due to my busy lecture schedules - but I have noticed a few enormous changes around here and was wondering it somebody could tell me what's going on...

Why oh why is it letting me post a diary as anonymous reader?
Yes, Indeed, Anonymous has a Diary
Kittie Pr0n, did I do the right thing?
The most beautiful display of utter crap I have ever had the mispleasure of seeing
1 - What happened to K5?!?! A while ago they were full of self-rightous slashdot-haters that posted intresting (though overly long) articles. Now they post trolls and made-up stuff to their homepage - not to mention that most stories there have as much traffic as slashdot!

2 - Slashdot, big ads, pay for content? WTF?!?! Is Sub-Commander Taco so strapped for cash that he's willing to sell his own mother off?

3 - Geekizoid... Gone! What happened???

4 - Adequacy... Well, the quality here has been the same, the editorial staff has kept the quality in good shape.

5 - Trollaxor... WTF IS THAT!?!?! Geekizoid on drugs - now it's offline, WTF!?!?!?!?!?

Geekizoid is a victim of anti-Catholicism (none / 0) (#1)
by Adam Rightmann on Mon May 13th, 2002 at 10:55:32 AM PST
the owner of Geekizoid tried to speak clearly and truthfully about Catholicism on www.kuro5hin.org, thus inciting the God-hating liberalists on that board, who started a DOS attack to punish him. He then took Geekizoid down, and the DOS attack stopped, allowing drug fiends to continue their board.

I remember that... (none / 0) (#4)

... it was a disgrace...

BTW, Mr. Rightmann, your articles have always been a source of wisdom and inspiration for me and my family. I remember that excelente piece you did on Bukake - a topic that always surfaced but I never understood, thank you for presenting such a clear answer.

Do you think that you could repost your previous answers to a new article? Some of the folks around here have not been around enough to partake of your insight.

I'd never even heard about about smokedot until your post. I'm a practising Roman Catholic and I believe cannabis is a righteous high. Discussions with my parish priest have done nothing to dispel this notion. In fact he and I often share a joint before a game of checkers. The Holy Bible after all makes no mention of cannabis. It's all right man!

The Bible doesn't mention anything about COMMUNISM either, but doesn't mean it's acceptable.

Communism (none / 0) (#16)
by Anonymous Reader on Wed May 15th, 2002 at 07:39:16 PM PST
The only reason the Bible doesn't mention communism is because the word didn't exist when it was written. If Jesus was alive in the 1900s, Joe McCarthy would have had him locked up faster than you can say "blessed are the meek."

I don't recall Jesus maundering about the alienation of the worker from the product of his labour, or recommending a dictatorship of the proletariat.

I think I can help. The part where you went wrong was when you assumed Communism to be a humanistic movement. I think whatever Jesus might have had to say might have upset Lenin even more than McCarthy, no?

Let me help.

kuro5hin - It was, and still is, full of Slashdot haters, but that could be said of just any site on the web. No one like Slashdot except the people who try to be part of the signal there. As for K5, it always has been a bunch of trolls. Now that you have returned with a clear head you can see them for what they are, that and the quality has slipped a bit.

Slashdot - Yeah, ads. There is nothing wrong with ads as long as they are tastefully done. Ads that sit up in the top right corner of the screen unobtrusively and direct me to excellent new products are fine. Gigantic, glowing, animated, loud, stupid ads that try to send my browser off to some open source quasi-paradise where everyone gives everything away free and nothing works quite right can stay the hell where they belong, on Slashdot. In fact, go over to Slashdot and tell those people to keep every vestige of the entire site to themselves. Keep their geek lives and their geek thoughts and their geek issues fenced up inside their geek compound, no one wants any of it.

Geekizoid - The original Geekizoid filled a niche. The second coming made me feel like I was in a gay bar. The conversation was too polite, the colors all matched, and I just got the general feeling that I didn't quite fit in. Supposedly it is back up in original form but I'm too afraid to visit it.

Adequacy - Much like the old Coke, it is better not to tinker with success. If a person wonders why Adequacy is unchanged, point to Lenux and tell them "see what happens when you let any idiot off the street grab a keyboard and start clicking away at something", they'll understand immediately.

Trollaxor - I don't know anything about that place. If it is anything like reading a Trollaxor post, I should go there immediately if not sooner.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! (none / 0) (#3)

Thanks Icebox!

A few comments...

k5 - So that means that all that crazy drivel is just trolling? I used to read the stuff there as "serious content" and, now that I'm back, all that I see is a bunch of people wanking themselves silly with a "holier than thou" attitude - has it always been like that and I just didn't notice?

Slashdot - Well, you said it all, for a few days now I've been lurking over at Fark - they have a lot more links (including the infamous Cosmiverse ones) without the self-rightous "Sub-Commander Taco is GOD" overtones.

GiZ - I agree with you 100% - the Scoop part was just to polite. :(

Adequacy - Their chat room on slashnet is a favorite place of mine, nice people (a few trolls, but that's ok) and good conversation.

Anyway Iceman, thanks for the help - I had been "out of it" for almost 3 months and noticed a LOT of changes, it's good to know that Adequacy managed to stay so unchanged despite the rest crashing around them.

As a fellow professor (though I prefer Dr.) and a man of business, I am curious as to your curriculum vitae.

As you know, this website values it's educated members highly. We all await your reply.

Thank you kindest sir.

attention to this professor. He sounds like he has a degree in marketing or divinity or something equally banal. Everyone knows you need to go to western Europe for a real education.

Dr. Cortéz, it's an honour to see a fellow professor here on such a controversial site!

Actually it's Kensington but the sloppy "GPL" software employed to manage this web site chopped off the rest of my name. Here is a better link to my resumé. I hope that we can, in the near future, cooporate on some projects!

I understand your frustration, we professors are not ignorant as to your needs to not feel left out of higher conversations - do not fret, we will not exclude anyone from our conversations.

All I ask is that you please respect my fellow PhDs - we are people just like you are, subject to errors and mistakes.

There's more to being a Nobel laureat than accuracy, as Rigoberta Menchú could tell you.

Thank you for revising my Adequacy resumé and detecting the possibility of error but, as you can see, I was right this time.
