I'll be departing from Florida City via the Overseas Highway -- the ultimate "blue highway" with water on both sides, 43 bridges and more than enough intriguing island detours to keep me busy for eight days and nights of aimless wandering (knowing that any normal person can drive from Miami to Key West in about 3.5 hours). It surprised me to realize today that I'd been
thinking about this trip for ten years now; somehow I've always allowed life get in the way, despite my best intentions.
I'll be kicking off my next year of life celebrating the sunset with all the other eclectic souls hanging out at Mallory Square on the appropriate evening.
(My thanks to the "partner-in-crime" who reminded me that birthdays aren't always an ending; there's an equal possibility that they can serve also as a beginning, a departure, a launching pad. Thanks again for waking me up, ma cher -- who knows how long I'd have gone on somnambulating if you'd not interrupted my so-called life?)
