Did I tell you that's already on the list? (seriously)

Take this job and shove it. It has been a shitty week at work. Time to go out and get drunk with my co-workers.

of course, this wouldn't happen if you stayed home, barefoot and pregnant, like you should.

Whaddya mean, barefoot? It's only 35 frickin' degrees in Boston here today!

And how do you know I'm not pregnant already?

oh, you're pregnant? (none / 0) (#18)

that explains a lot. what are do you doing following me around and not spending time with the poor slob who has to support that mutant for the rest of its life?

I voted for "Last Train..." (none / 0) (#6)
by motherfuckin spork on Fri Oct 26th, 2001 at 01:57:58 PM PST
but "Paint it Black" could be damn cool as well. I love that song to begin with... and imagining what getting it a bit "hyped up" (no offense) might do to it is intruiging...

I am not who you think I am.

Strangely enough, (none / 0) (#7)

I'm voting with the crowd here: Sweet Caroline. Although what really makes that is the horns. Do you have horn players? If not, no matter, just try your best.

Hmmm, what else. How about some old Zombies track, like "Time of the Season". I've also been re-listening to some old Bowie; maybe "Jean Genie", that's a good head-nodder.

When push comes to shovin,
I'd rather make some lovin.

Warm fuzzies (none / 0) (#8)

When people I strongly disagree with point out what a pain in the ass I am, it gives me a warm snuggly feeling. Thanks.

As I've just finished saying in Elenchos' article, I'll stop saying that this is a spoof site. The fact that people really do mean what they've been saying bothers the hell out of me, because I was hoping people weren't that small. I stand corrected.

I'm still amused that when I say what I mean, I'm "trolling," but when I make a satirical statement (closer to the definition of "trolling" as I'm aware of it) it's left alone or even occasionally rated up.

A troll's true colors.

I must say (5.00 / 1) (#11)
by spacejack on Fri Oct 26th, 2001 at 05:44:30 PM PST
In an anthropological sense, some of the characters here are pretty interesting. In the same way that it's hard not to turn away from a car-wreck, I find it hard not to check back and see what's going to appear next. Plus I want to see how long it takes before someone tells me I'm hell-bound.

When push comes to shovin,
I'd rather make some lovin.

Last Train to Clarksville (none / 0) (#9)
by Mendax Veritas on Fri Oct 26th, 2001 at 05:21:31 PM PST
Sure, it's cheesy (it's the Monkees), but it's good cheese (it's the Monkees, or at least Boyce and Hart, at their best).

Natalie Merchant always struck me as a prissy, self-important little whiner, and an unthinking one at that. She is generally rather uninventive musically. Her lyrics hit a momentary high point with "Like the Weather" that she has yet to come near again.

Neil Diamond is and has always been lame. Come to think of it, he's sort of like a male Natalie Merchant, always trying to make important artistic statements and just looking foolish. At his best, he wrote some mildly pleasant bubblegum pop music for other people to record, such as "I'm a Believer".

The Pretenders were cool, once upon a time, but "Back On the Chain Gang" seems like too personal a song for anyone else to cover. "My City Was Gone" might be a better choice. Nice bass line.

if you want to cover a Monkees tune, I suggest "Randy Scouse Git" (which I understand is British slang for "horny idiot from Liverpool" -- Mickey Dolenz wrote it when the Monkees toured England).

Then you don't have to listen. And that means you don't get to participate in the big circle jerk after all the concerts.

:P
