 Snoring can be cute?

I'll soon move in with [my b]oyfriend and another close friend. It sounds like fun. But scary.

[ED by elenchos: Eighteenth-century-style capitialization has been modernized to reflect the usage current in the 20th-21st century. Warning is issued to yellownumber5 that that JRR Tolkien/Ren Fest-style crap is not considered cute at all, and is in fact a kind of "verbal terrorism." Unless of course this man's real name is "Boyfriend" but we all know damn well it is not.

Why Science Got Me and God Didn't
As of right now, I am in a tiny dorm room. [My b]oyfriend is in my bed, getting cold without me. I shouldn't have napped, I suppose. I've got it so bad for him that I think it's cute when he snores. I used to think that snoring was the worst sound ever passed between molecules.

But, I always go off on that particular rant. The real event is that I'm going to move in to a nice little apartment with Boyfriend and another good friend of mine. We'll call her [s]oon-to-be-[r]oommate.

I think that's a reason that I can't sleep. I'm excited. I'm imagining us all eating breakfast together, surrounded by my nice neat shit in a clean, sunny kitchen. "Yes, I'd love to go to [prestigious social event]!" "Hey, Car Talk is on. Turn it up!" "Can I borrow [smarty-pants book] after you're done?" I can just see it now. All summer, I didn't really have a place to live, between the house I was house sitting, my parents' place, and [my b]oyfriends' - especially since I didn't have a car, and these places aren't all in the same town. Ever since then, I've been fantasizing about having a place that is full of my own, organized, nice neat shit. I'll have plates and a dresser and a book shelf and a couch!

Of course, I am not absolutely sure this will all go well. I'm nervous about living with [my b]oyfriend for the first time, or with anyone at all, for that matter. Even while living in the dorms, I never really had a roommate. I don't know what I'll do without a room that is specifically mine. I think I'll be able to adjust, though. My biggest fear is that I won't be able to find a good place to do homework. Generally, I need silence and to be alone for homework. Fortunately, my college is one of the fancy-schmancy ones that has a "[l]ibrary." I might have to darken its doorway.

Moving out... (none / 0) (#1)
by FifthChild on Thu Nov 8th, 2001 at 02:14:49 AM PST
Ah ha ha ha... Nervous laughter. I'm just rounding the end of my first year in a student dorm and I'm really really entrenched in this little rut I've made for myself. I see plenty of guys moving out and I know a few more coming back because they can't stand the share house life.

My second hand warning is be prepared for the worst and enjoy the good stuff, you'll more than likely get plenty of both if you work at it. And you get your own couch! No more communal arse sharing!

I've been offered rooms in share houses but I like life here, plus I think I'd kill the poor folks I move in with in a month. And anyway, my GF lives here too...

For me, it was a slice of heaven. Then, when she moved back home and I started my grad degree, things went sour.

The lesson? Don't love anyone, ever, or trust anyone, either, because people are cold, cruel, heartless, deceptive, inconstant, ungrateful, prideful, and malicious. I wish you the very best of luck with your new arrangement.

And snoring is not cute. It's annoying.

I beg to differ... a gentle, purring snorer can be a joy to sleep beside. I can well imagine that a honking, buzzy, adenoidal snorer is another story altogether.

By the bye, I think I am much more widely hated than osm. I certainly hope so.

All the best,

I don't know if you are much more widely hated than our buddy from KC, but you're just as amusing to read.

If you want, I'll start making sarcastic replies to all your messages. That may up your currency on adequacy.

I think it's cute when my boyfriend snores, but only if I'm not trying to sleep at the same time. ;)

Every site seems to have a temporary goat. It's all in good fun, but people do tend to go overboard when they forget it's not a real person they're mocking. And for those of you who are not Jin, don't you remember yourself at 21? I'd rather talk to Jin than that plastik55 guy, eg. Let's take it easy on her for a bit.

Sorry, I have no idea what came over me. Back to mocking Dexter Descartes. I wonder if he's a Cartesian dualist?

Having a double-wide certainly helps, at least once word starts to get around. They're all amazed; they have to see it for themselves. They want to touch it, but are almost afraid. Then comes the moment of truth....

It's a parody (5.00 / 1) (#15)
by Anonymous Reader on Thu Nov 8th, 2001 at 08:48:01 PM PST
Of the way K5 and Slashdot used to drool over Jin Wicked, I think.

Or maybe a parody of the way she sometimes seems to expect to be drooled over.

Or maybe it's just 'cause we're bored.

Hmm. (none / 0) (#18)
by jin wicked on Thu Nov 8th, 2001 at 10:19:12 PM PST
Actually, that would have to be one of the nicer comments I've seen on this site about me; it took me a whole two seconds instead of half of one to know it's just a thinly-disguised insult. Similarly, I can't recall ever being "drooled over" on k5 or /. [Some very vocal] people have pretty much been posting nasty things about me since I showed up. There are a couple of exceptions. You get used to it.

At least Adequacy is entertaining about it, which is more than I can say for k5.

And then there are people like Communista, who act friendly with me on the couple of occasions that I chatted w/ them on IRC or got private e-mail, but then talk about me "behind my virtual back" with other people. I can't recall on a single occasion anything I did or even said about her, besides this one. There's no reason for it. I don't play those kinds of games, and I don't appreciate them. So I just had enough of the site altogether, because she isn't the only one.

Other people are allowed to promote themselves online, or try to make a name for themselves, or whatever, but for some reason I'm not because of how I look or some crap like that. Humbug.

I implore you to believe in my sincerity, insencere as that may sound.

I urge you to (3.00 / 1) (#4)
by Mint Waltman on Thu Nov 8th, 2001 at 02:02:40 PM PST
...reconsider moving in with your boyfriend. Such proximity to him with no break may cause the two of you to sate your most primal, base, bodily appitites. I suggest a long courtship followed by marriage within the Church. Then I suppose it would be safe for the two of you to live together. As is, you're playing with fire... Hellfire.

In defense of my capitalization (none / 0) (#9)
by yellownumber5 on Thu Nov 8th, 2001 at 06:05:05 PM PST
For the purposes of this diary, his name certainly is "Boyfriend." I capitalized the word to indicate that that is what I will call him. The same goes for "Soon to be Roommate," who will soon become simply "Roommate." Hence my leaving out the word "my." I don't want to put real names in my diary, so I'll name people by title. It's like calling someone "Nurse" or "Professor."

At least I'm not using the word "terrorism" where it doesn't belong, hoping that the fact that it's sensational will absolve me of my duty to use it properly.

That will be exactly like the the show Three's Company!

Won't that be exciting! You can be Christmas "Chrissy" Snow (played by Suzanne Somers) and your friend can be Janet Wood.
