Have you tried duct tape?

How about vodka (none / 0) (#3)
by Hammurabi on Fri Oct 19th, 2001 at 02:11:48 PM PST
And you can't tell me it's um... unvoded, either. Ethanol is the solution for everything. It can power appliances, It can make people more prone to love and fucking, it can restore adequacy to all things, and it can make you write even better erotica. After enough vodka, kuro6e will return, and no longer suck. After enough vodka, peace will be restored to foreign lands. After enough vodka, the world can sing again. If Duct tape can't help you, vodka will.

BTW, you tried ductape on that there broken law of yours?

Duct tape does not work on the mind and actions os a criminal. Alcohol does not work on the mind and actions of a criminal. Only forceful retribution works on the mind and actions or a criminal. Only the harsh and heavy hand of justice can make the law whole again.

Duct tape works for pretty much everything else, though.

Aren't you very biased on this topic, Hammurabi?

I strive for equality and justice in all things. I know no bias. Any bias you may percieve in me is nothing more than your own feeble attempts to justify the insecurities which gnaw relentlessly at your self-respect. My word is just. My word is fair. My word is final. My word is the law.

any chance of someone who understands that sort of thing registering wank5est.org and pointing it at k5? Someone used it in a diary comment and I rather liked its summing up of the whole k5 ethos.

News for you (none / 0) (#14)

All weblog posting is an excersise in mental masturbation. At best it can be used as an excuse to develop one's writing skills, but I tend to view it more as a vice than anything else.

The one major difference I have noticed between K5 and Adequacy (besides the topics) is that K5 posts tend to be earnest, while Adequacy posts seem to be riddled with insincerity, locked in 20th century-style cynicism. Perhaps the lot of you enjoy the retro thing, but it all seems a little passe to me.

When push comes to shovin,
I'd rather make some lovin.

I hope I'm not out of line here, but...if you really don't like Adequacy, what on earth are you doing posting here? why are you coming here and badgering us about how awful things are?

if you truly stand by your ideals, you would stop posting and head back to k5.

You're making little sense (none / 0) (#16)
by spacejack on Sat Oct 20th, 2001 at 12:01:23 PM PST
I'm entertaining myself with a little debate. That's what the site is for, no? I was merely pointing out the logical inconsistencies of the post I responded to.

Besides, where did I ever say anything bad about Adequacy here? The only episode I can think of is when I disputed the sincerity of one of the authors, but that was largely due to the mistake I made -- thinking he was an editor rather than just another poster. And I apologised for that in a diary entry.

I wouldn't mind discussing a few issues that don't involve computers/internet technology from time to time, and I find Scoop to be the best system for civilized discussion of a wide variety of subject matter. The only thing I might criticize Adequacy for is the lack of faith they have in the software and user base to moderate itself.

Furthermore, you might notice that my previous diary entry was nothing but sincere.

When push comes to shovin,
I'd rather make some lovin.

that doesn't sound like a compliment to me.

I like the retro thing, personally...

It's not a compliment. (none / 0) (#18)

It's an observation which you are free to debate. They say K5 is home to mental masturbators (and therefore that Adequacy is not?!) I say no, it's the very nature of weblogs -- the ability to spew out ideas into a public forum -- is what makes them popular.

Given that they are equivalent in that respect, the only real qualitative difference I can see between the sites' users is the lack of sincerity here. So all the original K5 criticism really boils down to is that "they are too earnest", which stinks of empty cynicism. Or maybe "they are not cool", which stinks of elitism. I was under the impression that Adequacy was "News for Grownups", not a "News for Left-Over 20th Century L33t Cynics".

But as I said before, the difference in subject matter and focus is somewhat appealing, so I might drop by once in a while.

P.S., why did you boldface "century"?

Postmodernism was reading the paper this morning. It looked up, wrinkled its nose, and said, "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

A mujahid with put orders? How postmodern (and cynical) can you get?

I mean, really. :)

You've come to the right place! If ever there was a place on the net where you can find high-quality snake oil, it's right here at Adequacy! And if it isn't a cure for all that ails ya, it's at least good for a laugh, which again leads us back to the best medicine.

So...come here often?
