Though the Sydney Morning Herald has no further details at the moment, a headline currently on the main page says that the University of Queensland scramjet test has failed.

This is a very disappointing time for me as a patriotic Australian. I had hopes that the UQ team would lead the world in hypersonic flight. Now, I am reduced to a state of dejectedness. The only positive from it is that at least it didn't explode (like NASA's).

So, what should I do to alleviate my depression?

	Unfortunately, Mr Rightmann, I don't believe in God, but I thank you for your well-meaning advice. However, I think that it would be wrong to pray for hypersonic flight only so that other religions that you don't agree with should not do so first. Religion is what has divided the world too often. If we co-operate with the "Godless Chinese" to work for the benefit of mankind (ie, flying at Mach 7+), perhaps it would be for the good.

	I have faith that the godless Chinese will not impose their policies in international space co-operations. I don't plan on living in China, and I don't agree with many of their government's policies, but that shouldn't stop them from being a part of a (Christian led, probably) conquest of the space near our planet.

	hypersonic flight, but are you in Sydney? If so, I'm incredibly jealous. Stop bumming out about failed scramjet tests and rejoice in the fact that you live in one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. Hooray! (Sorry about the test failure. But do take Rightmann's advice and refuse to work with the Chinese. They don't have a really reliable reputation for integrity when it comes to not stealing technology.)

	In fact, I am an Aussie expatraite living in Muscat, Oman, about half a world away. But Oman does have some beatiful things in it, namely sea life and imposing rock mountains. So you can be a little bit jealous.

	OK, I'm jealous of what sounds like an abundance of natural beauty in Oman, but not sure I'd actually want to BE there right now. I always want to go to Sydney. Actually, maybe Oman would be better than looking out my window at cinder block industrial buildings under grey skies in East Cambridge.

	I'd been following the scramjet from Brisbane, but couldn't find any news about results. I'm sorry to hear it failed. UQ's thought was to build just an engine without worrying about wings; I wonder if the intake had problems? Also, I thought the NASA jet didn't explode as much as was destructed. They wanted to make sure it didn't glide out of control even if the jet itself failed to fire. A troll's true colors.
