I've browsed the site for many months now, and I'm pleased to notice that due to the hard work of our esteemed writers, adequacy is quickly rising to the top of the list of internet message boards. One of the most popular segments of this site, is the diary feature.

New Adequacy Feature?
Adequacy Update
Adequacy using too much bandwidth?
So, why do you write your 'diary' on adequacy? What brings you to the site? Where did you hear about it? I'm also curious as to how your viewing habits have changed since finding adequacy. Personaly, I heard about it on irc, and I now repeatedly review the page every day, anxiously awaiting a new story. So, share with the rest of us below

I came here via jsm's sig whoring on k5 (5.00 / 3) (#1)

My viewing habits have changed in that I've started to assume that all the stories on kuro5hin are trolls.

I came here a sincere and principled optimist, and now I'm an angry self-obsessed cynic. Thank you adequacy!

I'm an angry self-obsessed cynic.

Cool. I'm looking for someone to take over the streetlawyer account, and you sound like the right kind of guy

... the worst tempered and least consistent of the adequacy.org editors
... now also Legal department and general counsel, adequacy.org

Well, I'm flattered.

Although I'm not sure even a reborn streetlawyer can save k5 from irredeemable tediousness at this late late stage.

How I came here (none / 0) (#9)

I was a geekizoid junkie, a lover of goats and sporks. Motherfuckin_spork, Spork_testicle and P0rnKing were my gods - not to mention my deep seeded love for Shoeboy's articles.

When I found out about Adequacy I was a bit frightened at the time because my simpleton mind could not comprehend the greatness of the site. Now that I changed - for the better since Geekizoid has died a gruesome death - I appreciate Adequacy's editorial line.

There are few places where I can read intriguing articles for grown-ups. I have come to love Mr. Johnson's and jsm's writing styles.

I must say that now I am trully well adjusted. Thanks Adequacy!

diaries are truly a ghetto here (1.00 / 1) (#3)

The downside to having let's say less than sincere people arguing the two sides of an argument is that invariably one person makes a less than perfect argument for one side: basically they use (poor) strawmen, or ad hominem attacks, either way the argument dies after only one or two exchanges of comments, as opposed to places like k5 where there were weeks worth off comments that for the most part were related to the issue

The only reason k5 has 'weeks worth of comments' is because each story is on the frontpage for weeks at a time.

not true of the diaries (none / 0) (#6)

to which i was referring. in particular, one by trhurler, and one by samth, that each had approximately 200 comments. there are consistently highly commented diaries, not including bullshit like jin wicked's stuff. i'm only including flame war material here.

Yeah, I've got both of those hotlisted, they were good diaries. I think I've had about two or three diaries that haven't got any comments so far, and that's in almost six months of writing one every weekday. If it's less than 5 I'm kind of put out, which indicates that the feature is feeding a latent narcissism I never knew I posessed...

Why Adequacy? (5.00 / 1) (#5)
by chloedancer on Thu Sep 27th, 2001 at 12:48:50 PM PST
I ended up here because a co-worker dropped enough breadcrumbs mark the way and snared my curiosity; whether I wish to curse him or kiss him for doing so is another story entirely.

(Now let's just see how long it takes for that to show up on the editorial gossip radar... I know you're watching ;)

What keeps me here? This is my third time around the pixel salons during the past 18 years. While I'm a little out of the mainstream for the general "regulars" on Adequacy, I do not perceive myself as being treated like an outsider here -- I'm just another misfit of a slightly different flavor, all things considered, and I'm in good company. There is also a dimension at Adequacy I'd found lacking when briefly testing the waters elsewhere -- /. and K5 are both too far into the realm of the "geek mind" to appeal to me consistently, and they lack much of the humor, creativity and wordplay that are offered up in spades here at Adequacy.

As to why I post to the collective diary at this particular location, I offer the following: It's a place where I can run down the corridors of my mind, flinging open doors just to see what tumbles out. It's the electronic and somewhat anonymous confessional booth for the modern era; even as technology has a potential for further separating people, it can also provide an opportunity to connect with fewer of the biases and prejudices experienced in real-time. It gives me a place to drop a phrase or an idea that caught my attention during the course of the day; sometimes I even get to learn what significance, if any, it might have for others. In short, it's a place to voice the things I may not have space for in my face-to-face life, to get my ya-yas out.

angry self-obsessed cynicism is GOOD (5.00 / 1) (#8)
by dmg on Thu Sep 27th, 2001 at 04:28:29 PM PST
Thats why I am here!

I am cynical, but until I found adequacy.org I had no outlet for my rantings.

What makes adequacy better than /. or k5 is that on the whole people are intelligent and cynical enough.

I am sick of reading that open source is a panacea. I am sick of cultural relativism. I am sick of many things.

Above all I am sick of the pomposity of the so-called digerati. Slashdot in particular is a big commerical circle jerk. ESR is a dangerous lunatic and K5 is a wank-fest.

I hope I have enlightened you all.

BTW why is everyone obsessed with Jin the Wicked ? I thought it was only slashbots who never get laid...
