Heh, even the president of Brazil got into the act:

President Fernando Henrique Cardosa claimed it "brought a distorted vision of Brazilian reality".

Well... yeah.

A spokesman said: "What really hurt was the idea of the monkeys - the image that Rio de Janeiro was a jungle. It's a completely unreal image of the city."

	Foreign people frequently fail to grasp the amazing freedoms we, as American citizens, enjoy. As the puzzled Egyptian consul general wondered about the ACLU, "Is it banned here?" No, my ignorant foreign friend, in a free country like America, or to a lesser extent Canada, even elite anti-American liberals like the ACLU are allowed to operate! This display of cultural ignorance by Rio de Janeiro demonstrates how far many non-Americans have go to comprehend universal First Amendment rights. After all, in a third world country such as Brazil, Italy, or China, Matt Groening would be rotting in the Gulag.

	You've got the DMCA, and various other laws that destroy your "fair use" rights there. You can't move about because of all the extra "security" brought in after the September 11th attacks. Your people are running from the shadow of terrorism, and the shadow of your own government. Why don't you excercise that second amendment right you're so proud of and sort out your government?

	The "elite anti-American liberals like the ACLU" are not anti-American. Where is the evidence? I think they are anti-bible and pro-mess-your-own-life-up-and-go-to-hell-but-have-a-good-time-doing-it. Does that make 'em "anti-American"? Forgive me, but would Matt Groening be even worth it? Is he that dangerous? One last thing, being ignorant that I am, why must we "enjoy" our freedoms? Freedom kick us out of "The Garden". What has freedom really given us? Think about it.

	The ACLU is as anti-American as any Berkeley professor you'll find, meaning that if they were any further to the left they would all be on a raft somewhere between here and Hawaii. Sure, they stand up for civil rights. Want to smear shit all over yourself and run naked through a grade school? That is free speech, the ACLU will fight for your rights. Want to smoke crack and play bongo drums on the White House lawn? That is your right as an American! How about a gun? Do you want to buy a pistol to defend yourself against the drug addicted bongo players? Sorry, we can't help you exercise that right. The ACLU doesn't care about civil liberties, they care about whining, and liberalism, and keeping their coffers full.

	that the ACLU was a non-profit organization? However, I believe that the main ideal behind the ACLU is about as American as they come. Our civil liberties define us as Americans, and the defense of these freedoms is a noble cause. 	I have recently been to Rio, and can verify that just as depicted in that episode of the Simpsons, there are plenty of thieving street children, all of the taxi drivers are desperate and insane, everyone there is heavilly into 'boom boom' (that is the local term for buggery), and many of the men have that speedo wearing fruitery common to Greece and Italy, and so at least give the impression of raging homo-/bi- sexuality. Oh, and the city is in fact cut in completely in half by a huge swath of raw jungle full of sleazy little monkeys and toucans.

	that the writers didn't mention the death sqauds that used to sweep through various neighborhoods in the name of "urban cleansing," many of their victims children. Monkeys, rats, and men of ambiguous sexual orientation should have been the least of their concerns.
