In this diary entry, I encourage the upstanding members of Adequacy to think deeply on the problem of script-kiddism, and share their thoughts.

It is only a matter of time, I fear, before another attack. How should we prepare for this eventuality? What should be done to the offender? See Poll.

Known script kiddies will not be permitted to post comments in this diary entry. Any such comments will be deleted. Unfortunately, but obviously, this means that anonymous commentary can not be permitted. Comments by Anonymous Reader will therefore be deleted as well.

There are some people who have a great deal of trouble understanding that they have to play by the rules. This, on its own, might simply be the consequence of a rebellious outlook.

If, however, these same people cry "foul!" with great vehemence when their schemes are foiled, their ideation can no longer be interpreted as mere rebellion; it is, instead, the very essence of the selfish criminal mindset.

Be vigilant.

Have you contacted the internet police? (none / 0) (#7)
by T Reginald Gibbons on Mon Aug 19th, 2002 at 12:03:08 AM PST
Whoever he is, this offender obviously deserves the attention of the proper authorities. Who knows how many websites he threatens with his scripted attacks?

Have you called his parents as well? Assuming the boy won't be imprisoned for data crimes, they will probably want to ground him for a considerable time. No doubt they've been wondering what he has been doing on the computer all this time.

Has his ISP been informed? ISPs clearly state in their terms of services that scripted attacks are illegal. Hopefully you have gathered enough evidence to have this attacker banned from the internet.

Excellent suggestions. (none / 0) (#8)

Whenever a working class agitator gets too big for his britches, he is assimilated, usually via knighthood. Remember Sir Harold Wilson?

And then we'll have us a nice little comfortable democracy, won't we? (Except that any true democracy necessarily depends on slavery. Witness ancient Rome, ancient Greece and the U.S. before it became an empire.)

It didn't work. (none / 0) (#11)

Knights, of course, have no real power; the British, you understand, don't make their criminals into Ministers or MPs just to appease them.

We tried elevating a certain script-kiddie to the coveted though relatively powerless Zero Status, with no noticeable result. Simple appeasement doesn't work with these creatures.

Appeasement.... (none / 0) (#14)
by faustus on Mon Aug 19th, 2002 at 06:12:48 PM PST
Yes the British are very good at appeasement, not only within their own inbred governing system, but with such visionaries as Adolf Hitler.

Currently, Mr Blair is appeasing the luminous G W Bush, a Vietnam "Vetran", and international cowboy, by green lighting Desert Storm II:"Why didn't we use Nukes Last Time?".

As we can see, History has proven that appeasement is a glorious road to travel down. I propose that the esteemed Adequacy elite enact the "cock polishing" initative, and bask in the glory of brushing dirty garbage under the rug for some other jerk to deal with.
