I've had a few experiences with lucid dreaming in my time. Sometimes drug induced, sometimes not. Sunday afternoon I laid down to take a nap. A few minutes later, I realized I was in that twilight zone...

Previous experiences with lucid dreams were extremely fun, but I didn't have as large a degree of control over them as I did Sunday. The first thing I noticed was water rushing past me, as if in a tunnel. I wondered what the hell was going on but I wasn't afraid. After thinking a moment, I realized it was a dream. Usually, the sudden realization I was dreaming would wake me up, but not this time. I actually maintained the state, seemingly intentionally and decided to see what I could do. The odd thing is, I could tell I was thinking from a different place. I didn't perceive myself existing as a thinking human, but as an entity of pure being, of intent. I can't really explain it well, actually. Anyway, I would "think" of something I wanted to experience and it would happen in front of me, so to speak. But it wasn't a matter of "oh, I want to see a hill with flowers". It was almost like the image I wanted to produce was a bubble deep within me and I pushed it to the surface, where it would burst into "existence". So, that was one image. I was standing at the top of a huge hill. It was rich with grass. Sort of a pleasant spring day sort of deal. Suddenly, flowers of every imaginable color just grew up out of the ground and blossomed. It was really quite striking. Eventually, they would melt away. I kept doing this, using different objects: clouds, explosions, rushing water. They would all sort of expand into existence with striking colors, smells, sounds, etc. and then dissolve away. Eventually, I fell completely asleep and had dreams about being a gerbil king or something. |
