Now, in our post-September 11 world, I think that Godwin's Law should be expanded to include the attacks on our country. How many times have you been in a discussion of a completely unrelated topic, only to have someone make a reference to 9/11? It is becoming the new fad thing to do, since Nazi Germany is too far gone in this generation's memories to have any substantial effect as an ad hominem attack.
While I do agree, as any government censorship-fearing American does, that the 9/11 attacks were terrible, I do believe that you should just let it go, and not make cockamamey references to it to try to win an argument. Godwin's Law also states that if you use a reference to Nazi Germany, then you automatically lose the debate if you invoke the Law.
Don't break the Law. Use good facts to back up your argument, not emotional and ad hominem points, and God bless America.
