A few lines on the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This enchanting piece of poetry was originally written to celebrate Her Majesty's Silver Jubilee way back in 1977. It has been re-released by the record company for her Golden Jubilee since it proved to be so popular the first time around.

If you are in London on 8th June 2002 you might be interested in taking a celebratory river cruise on the river Thames.

President Blair...

Oh yeah it is already...

I used to think like that. (none / 0) (#2)
by dmg on Mon May 27th, 2002 at 04:07:05 PM PST
But then I remembered that Blair can be kicked out if we really get sick enough of him. He also pays tax. Much as I detest the no-content politics and pandering to the moronic electorate that is the hallmark of Blair's "vision", I hate the sheer decadance of the Royals even more.

Roll on DNA testing! Mind you, if David Icke is right, the DNA tests could reveal a little bit more than the fact that several key royals are quite literally Bastards...

The problem in so-called democracies, the moronic electorate. Much better is rule by an elite who really know what's good for the country. Pinochet's Chile comes to mind...

The problem is the electorate. (none / 0) (#7)
by dmg on Tue May 28th, 2002 at 03:55:41 AM PST
My vision of a future Britain would have us follow the Swiss model of democracy. Obviously you have to educate the masses, but unlike the current and previous govts of this country, I think that would actually be a GOOD thing.

The Royals will be downsized eventually, they are simply not good value for money from a political perspective.

There's the problem. (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by dmg on Tue May 28th, 2002 at 06:37:35 AM PST
The Electorate are stupid. They must be educated, because that is the intelligent thing to do. However, being stupid, they continue to vote for the people who pander to their stupidity e.g. New Labour.

I don't honestly see a way out of this problem. Perhaps when the UK integrates with the EU, the educated German technocrats and elite French Enarques will FORCE the UK to raise it's educational standards, but I won't hold my breath.

...are the cornerstone of contemporary political and economical system, usually called "Western democracy".

It is easier to sell bullshit to stupid people - from washing powders to ideologies. No wonder the contemporary advertisements (including political campaigns) so rarely appeal to reason, but are rather aimed to feelings.

back in the 20's I think, Freud's nephew took his uncle's ideas of a dark subconcious that must be controlled, and turned it into a new form of social control. We went from being a needs based economy to a desires based economy.

The Royal Family of the British is serving their purpose well.
Your country rolls them out whenever you think the civilized nations are forgetting about you.
As caretakers of an almost forgotten time, they serve as reminders of what was once considered elite.
Visitors to your quaint little country can see exactly how far we in the United States have progressed from a servile society.
Enjoy your "royalty" before some corporation buys up the licensing rights to them.

"The Royal Family of the British"
Better to say - The British Royal Family.

"Your country"
You're country

Apart from that it was okay.

They're not British... (none / 0) (#14)
by gordonjcp on Tue May 28th, 2002 at 03:05:35 PM PST
... they are the English royal family. We don't really have a royal family in Scotland any more.

I'd say a country that makes school children recite a pledge of allegiance that they don't understand every morning is probably in a bad place to talk about being servile. We don't mind the English though, it saves us having to run a mint, and we can let them deal with all the messy infrastructure stuff.

The Pledge of Allegiance. (none / 0) (#19)
by John Wainright on Tue May 28th, 2002 at 09:46:28 PM PST
Is not federally mandated for children in our schools.
As for understanding the words, They are so simple and pure that it's hard to mis-understand them.
Any failure to understand "I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." is purely the fault of the parents.

The Pledge of Allegiance (none / 0) (#20)

It was more the implications and sentiment of the pledge that I was talking about, but fair enough - I didn't know it wasn't a compulsory thing. Everyone I know that went to school in the US had to do it though, but it may have changed since they left school.

When I was in school... (5.00 / 1) (#24)
by First Incision on Wed May 29th, 2002 at 03:59:14 PM PST
Every once in awhile, the principal would tell all the teachers "We really should be doing the pledge." So we would do it every day for 2 weeks or so, and maybe they teacher would forget to do it for a day or two. 2 months later, everyone forgot all about it. Repeat every 3 years or so.

A beautiful ode to the Queen... (none / 0) (#4)
by cyberikal on Tue May 28th, 2002 at 01:46:36 AM PST
While I certainly, with every ounce of my being, respect the anthem which John Lydon [more akin to John Keats!] penned so eloquently as a gift to Queen Elizabeth, I must say that his decadent lifestyle upsets me tremendously. Oh, John, when will you live up to the name of Jesus' blessed cousin, realize your true poetic talent, and draw near to Christ? How long must we mourn, Mr. Lydon, for your hell-bound soul?

God save the Queen, but more importantly, may God save John's wretched soul and let his future work be used to glorify the name of our Father!

listen to the first Public Image Ltd album for Jonny's thoughts on religeon.
I think it's high time we booted the parasites out. The new Republic of Britain has a good ring to it in my view. That way, the tourists that do come will be interested in the country at large, not just some ridiculous inbred anachronism.
I'm not suggesting we drag them out into the streets & murder them, how about keeping them on permanent display? We could open Buck house up to the public, fill it full of surveilance cameras, and have a big brother stylee monarchy at a fraction of the cost! Cracking TV, too.
Better still, we have a 'king for a year' system, where members of the public are selected at random, as they are in jury trials. It can't produce any worse candidates than what we've seen so far, & seems thoroghly progressive & egalitarian in my view.
