I can understand why women feel a need to dress their faces. Makeup often improves the immediate aesthetic appearance of a woman. Makeup can be an important part of a stunning ensemble. I have to admit that I enjoy seeing a
woman decked out in a shimmering floor length dress complete with a carefully adorned face. Things like color and texture can do much to improve the overall effect of a woman's beauty. But when considering the overall good of makeupism, continually ask yourself this important question: "Wouldn't that chick look better without clothing?"
Many have blamed women's compulsion to wear makeup on the patriarchal structure of our society. This is only indirectly correct. Women's need for dignity requires some covering of their person. Yet in our male-dominated society, the demand on women has been to gradually wear less and less clothing in public. Waistlines and necklines are getting lower as skirt hems rise. As young women are required to reveal more and more of the epidermis, they react by covering their faces. Simply take a look around. You will find the most scantily clad women are always wearing a thick paste of glittering brightly colored makeup.
Many aging, brittle women also wear makeup. This is not necessarily bad. Just as the right clothes can compensate for a not-so-perfect body, a moderate amount of makeup can cover for flaws. For most women though, makeup only presents a barrier between their face and the outside world. Our faces are the very essence of essence of our humanity. We use our visages to communicate verbally and with emotional facial expressions. Presenting an unobstructed face is surely more important than presenting a bare abdomen, upper thigh, or breast cleavage.
The day-to-day wearing of makeup should immediately fall out of fashion. Like the evening gown or tuxedo, makeup may still have its place for special occasions. A daily application of light makeup may also be desirable for high-powered female corporate executives to compliment their expensive suits. But please ladies, there is no need to get all gussied up for a trip to McDonalds. Proudly present your true face to the world.
