I am now the proud new owner of a Parker NiteFly.

It's beautiful. 2 Dimarzio Customs and a HotRails Bridge single. Plus Piezo elements in the bridge.

It has a carbon neck and it plays like a fucking dream.

Plus it's black.

Happy Birthday to me....

OK, so I have a 10Mbps Ethernet link in my apartment. So, what I do is turn on a text-mode browser and leave it perpetually running with this site loaded. That's why it looks like I'm always online.

You don't use IE?

You do know that text browsers = COMMUNISM right?

I think you're confused. Microsoft == Communism.

He's one of the best generators of controversy you'll ever find. I'd call him brilliant, but that would go to his head.

As to the Parker-- hell of a lot to pay for a Strat copy, no? But people who shell it out seem to be pretty happy with them.

Rock on.

...I delete as much of his really lame crap as I can find. That is really the definition of a good editor: an angel of mercy who makes an otherwise mediocre performer look good by getting rid of the ill-conceived and the badly executed.

It's quite a thankless job, if you must know the truth of it.

if you can find me a strat with a graphite carbon neck that's perfectly flat with my steinberger, I'll take it. Besides, it was 500$ used, which is less than most used American strats are.

Still pricey. (none / 0) (#17)
by Anonymous Reader on Mon Oct 29th, 2001 at 05:23:19 PM PST
If you're going to shell out half a grand, why not get the real thing? A quick look at ebay says you can get an American Standard for less than 0.5kUSD.

But it's got a graphite neck. Whoo. I suppose I should figure anyone with a Steinberger to have a neck fetish. Or are you one of those 0.14 macho types?

Fuck, it's a bloody bolt-on neck. If it warps, buy a new one. And once you're actually on stage, no-one will know it's a mexican unless you feel compelled to announce the fact. Spend your dough on the amp, I say, or on a decent accoustic, if you go in for the unplugged thing.

Then again, I did drop $500 on my ES-135 w/Bigsby tremolo. Case included. Plus, it's black.

Not really that expensive (none / 0) (#18)

If you're going to shell out half a grand, why not get the real thing?

Mainly because Parkers fucking rule. Seriously. They're a lot like sex.

Well, maybe not like sex. But damn close. They're amazingly playable guitars, they sound great, and they give you a lot of sounds to mess around with.

And for that matter, $500 is pretty cheap for a good guitar. Check into the prices for a new Fly, Les Paul, G&L, Hamer, or PRS (if you must). Hell, even my accoustic ran me that much.

Then again, I hear you can pick up a cherry-red Hondo for $40 at Music Go Round. Decisions, decisions.

Suit yourself. (none / 0) (#22)

You like the Parker, good. I just don't see it, myself. Not all that juiced about PRS, either.

I know what these things cost, new and used, and I know my Gibson was a steal, even as a reissue. It plays like a dream, and sounds like god's own semi-hollow.

If you want to stick with a solid body, I just don't see much to gain beyond a Fender Standard, or a Tele, or a Les Paul, or a decent knock-off plus whatever replacement parts you're interested in.

I suppose if everyone was like me, there wouldn't be any room for the smaller manufacturers, and that would really suck. So rawk on, rawk stars.

Oh, and the accoustic world is another matter entirely. I think you get a lot closer to what you pay for out there.

I actually own a tele (none / 0) (#23)
by TheReverand on Tue Oct 30th, 2001 at 07:33:04 AM PST
Which I love. Like was said above though, there are some amazing tones I can get with that thing. And yes, I have a neck fetish. I love the perfectly straight, phenol topped fretboard of a steinberger. Maybe I'm just a shitty guitarist (likely, if you've ever heard my music at http://modalconstruction.com/rev/ You'll know just how mediocre I am)

But I'm also kind of a digital gearhead, and the Parker helps satisfy that a little bit. Once I modded a Strat with a Piezo, a hotrails and a stereo blended out, I would be paying a hell of a lot more than 500.

I'll be a good little hauntedattics and never question TheRev again. And I'll take my pregnant self back to the kitchen as long as I can wear some shoes. Remember, it's cold here in the Northeast.

Just because you're a "girl" does not mean that you can come around here trying to seduce me and warren. Please stop with your flirtatious antics immediately, or post naked pictures of yourself along with whiny diaries and bad poetry a-la jin wicked.

Thank you.

I'm just trying to annoy the crap out of you. I seem to be succeeding.

Sorry - no nude photos or bad poetry available. Guess that just leaves the whiny diaries.

It's not easy to annoy me. The only person who is really good at it doesn't have an aq account. please do not confuse stark honesty with annoyance.
