I log in to post a Lenten diary, and it appears that Mr. Rightmann has already posted a Lenten article. Oh well, I will write this before I read the article. So if I repeat, or contradict anything he says, it is totally unintentional.

Lent is, in many ways, a wonderful time of the year. I have often flirted with the idea of an ascetic lifestyle, but have never had the guts to go through with it. I am always trying to improve my relationship with God and the members of the Church, but of course I can never be perfect.
Lent is a wonderful time to work on these goals. Every year, I take stock in my life. What am I falling short in? What are my vices? What is distracting me from my goals. Usually, when I try a little self-denial for Lent, it is not permanent. The goal is to give up something cold-turkey, so I can return to it in moderation. I try to keep these things private, but there is one change I am will make public on this forum. Currently, my worst vice is Adequacy. It sucks me in, and distracts me from my studies. Often the subjects brought up dominates my thoughts. It is probably making me more of a jerk. So, for the duration of Lent, I am giving up Adequacy.org. After 6 weeks, I will return with a better appreciation of life, spare-time, and the wonderful and not-so-wonderful people here. Hopefully, I will post responsibly, sparsely, and intelligently. In the meantime, I urge you to observe a season of fast and meditation, no matter what your religious persuasion. Lenten observance is on the upswing among Protestant denominations such as Baptists. Even if you aren't a Christian, I am sure you can see the personal benefits of such a season.
So, until Easter, I bid you all adieu. |
