It's 116 AD and Trajan has just kicked Parthian ass all the way back to the Persian Gulf. We are at the height of our power, and it seems the entire World should tremble in fear before us.

wasn't the part about the get-together between different sections of the class that turned into an orgy, or the instructor having sex at a gay strip club on a for-credit field trip.

No, the part that I love was where students passed around Polaroids of their respective naughty bits for viewing in a "respectful manner."

Any civilization wherein that can be said with a straight face is done.

Yes, we all know about Roman orgies. Oh, those Romans! Always with the orgies!

But, you know what? The orgies were what the emperors and his cronies did. The regular people, the everyday people like you and me (well, not like you and me ferheavenssake, this is adequacy!) were rather prudish.

Roman women did not uncover their "dirty pillows". Sex during the day was something reserved for the honeymoon only.

So, for "everyday people" like Berkley extension/adult ed students to have an orgy was quite non-Roman Empire-like.

But, I agree, Trajan kicked major Parthian ass and then came back to Rome and built a cool shopping mall to celebrate. And Mussolini plowed it under to build a parade street.

You're probably right. Most written history is in fact the history of the ruling class.

The forum Trajan built was in celebration of his Dacian victories. He died on the way back to Rome after the Parthian expedition.
