Univega isn't sold in the US anymore. They were just rebadged Raleighs anyway. Sure, you can go custom, but if you're average build you can get a good fit from most production bikes with maybe just a stem changeout. You know anyone who makes custom-fit carbon fiber frames? I sure don't.
I bought the Trek in January 1999. At that time Lance was a washed up racer with platinum traces still burning in his veins, who'd never amount to anything ever again on the bike. Brand cachet certainly wasn't a factor. I bought it because when I got up out of the saddle and sprinted, there was no frame windup. When I threw it into a corner, it tracked exactly as I expected. When I rode over rough pavement, it muted the bumps. And - bonus - it fit perfectly with no component changeouts. To cap it all, $2500 for a monocoque carbon fiber frame, Rolf wheels (say what you want, but 3+ years later and they still roll true) and Ultegra 9 speed was a pretty good deal.
But enough of this. Time to go ride. Those 10 lbs aren't going to come off all by themselves.
