Have you ever been caught in a heavily touristy area and been led to wonder exactly how many photos exist, with you either far in the background or as a fast moving blur in the foreground, stuck in the pages of various Japanese photo albums?

She always asks that. I dont know if I really have an answer to that.

I tend to not take pictures with people in the background, so I dont know the "average" amount of people you would get in the background of any given people. Once you get the statisical average number of people in the background of any picture, you would need the some kind of "average amount of pictures taken per person". Multiply those together, and you would get the total number of "other people" taken by any given person. Multiply by the total population. It then boils down to a percentage:

Total pictures with "other people"
----------------------------------
               Total population

Anyway, it probably could be done, though probably with a fair amount of in-acuraccy.

I know I'm in the foreground of many tourist shots, surrounded on all sides by grinning Japanese and Koreans. For some reason this only happens in Europe.

I'm sure they then go home and show the photos to friends, saying "And I slept with this one in Paris, and this one in Frankfurt..."
