 Who are we?

This evening finds me sipping grain vodka and pondering two great mysteries. The first of these is; who am I, who are these people that share this web site with me, and why do we do it?

The second great mystery is; if potato vodka is so superior to grain vodka (and I assure you it is), why is it so much harder to find?

I am adrift in a sea of uncertainty. I do not know who I am. I do not know who my fellow Adequacy users are. I do not know why I read this site. I do not know why I am an editor here. I do not know why some of our readers return again and again. I am completely incapable of applying a bit of intellect to help unravel this conundrum.

This site has been up for over a year now, and so far I haven't been able to develop even one single shred of a theorem as to why this all exists. This is where I need your help.

I don't believe anyone who has been around here for a while is qualified to help me out. This task calls for fresh blood. What I would so love to see is a new user emerge from the woodwork and, after reviewing the place for a week or two, provide me with a complete, thorough analysis of Adequacy.

I firmly believe that this sort of insight is exactly what is called for. Some of you may believe that it had all been settled many months ago, or perhaps that it was never even an issue in the first place. To you I say, "Horse feathers!". We crave this type of expose like a priest craves little boys.

So I hereby put forth my plea: Please oh please tell me what this place is all about and, if possible, tell me why those who frequent it do so. I can't handle the amibguity of something just chugging along under its own impetus without anyone ever feeling the need to discuss the hows or whys of it all.

And if you want to be extra helpful, send me a fine bottle of Polish potato vodka.

I like to learn new words and phrases, specially clever insults, that's why I come here. Of course I learn them from comments, as stories are mainly poor-written crap.

The mixing of alcohol and idleness doesn't generate very good thoughts. Before drowning in the existentialist pond, take that rope.

..........???

Around the neck is not such a brilliant idea. You decidedly should stop drinking!

Reason I always come back is I am hoping just hoping that some of these stories end up as a joke.

As a god fearing MCSE I personally enjoy this site because of the open unbiased debate. Lunix lover cartoon is also entertaining. As a dyslexic I also find a comunity of fellow bad spellers reassuring.

when I was 'new', I wrote an essay about adequacy.org and put it up on the Inter-web. It's still there, last time I checked.

Personally, I come here to improve me spelling and grammar. It's the only place I feel I can torture people's eyes and sensibilities with impunity.

Blame Osama (none / 0) (#9)

I did not post immediately, because I am even older than Mr. Isn't. But I came to this site in the aftermath of 9/11. I came to Adequacy because my life was making too much sense.

Last September, I was confused. While the actual world had gone crazy, my own life was startlingly sane. Everybody in the "traditional" media was trying to make sense of it all. I knew they were attempting the impossible. A young man following the straight and narrow path for a lifetime entering medical school, that makes sense. Two smoking skyscrapers and a wounded Pentagon does not.

Then, by pure chance, I heard of Adequacy: News for Grownups. I thought maybe these grownups could help me. They could.

Of the heaps of journalism spewed towards me in the months of September, only the stories on Adequacy truly spoke to me. I strongly suggest newcomers read such classics as Kill Yr Idols: Usamah bin Muhammad bin Laden and Kill Yr Idols: God.

I am here because I am filled with unresolved childhood angst and rage and general self loathing so I waste hours a day fucking around trolling people online.

That and because I believe Adequacy.org is the best place to pick up chiXorZ

I blame Osama too (none / 0) (#14)
by Mr Somebody on Thu Aug 8th, 2002 at 06:15:04 AM PST
yep, I too was washed up on these shores in the post 911 news frenzy. Desparate for any info, I was suckered in by Adequacy's misleading tagline.
I don't know how average I am here, I'm a 32 year old bloke living in Bristol in southwest England. I work at a software house doing animation & other assorted arty things. I have no strong political affiliations any more, as they all seem pretty lame & self serving.
I suppose I hang around to be informed, educated, entertained & occasionally enraged, patronised & insulted. I also like communing with my fellow Anglophones around the globe. The English speaking nations of the world are a familly in my eyes, & I'm interested to know their moods & thoughts.
What I don't hang around for is the endless bleating about which OS is best. To be honest, I couldn't give a monkey's. I never frequented Kurowhat5it or the other one, but feel sure that they would be more suitable forums for such debate.
