I've turned down more dates than I can possibly remember from people who actually told me their names, and hundreds of requests for topless pictures, but for some odd reason I feel compelled to meet you, Mr. Anonymous Coward... and even go to a bar, one of the most rank, vile places you could visit on this planet...topless no less... uh huh. :P I wasn't talking to you anyway.

there are really good bars..

some of them even serve some non alcoholic beverages and play good music. Cool people also hang out at certain bars.

Whatever floats your boat; personally I can smell alcohol from about five feet away and the scent of it makes me ill (long story)... if there are people drinking there, then it isn't a place for me, regardless of the fact that I can get non-alcoholic drinks or not. That, and I'm very allergic to cigarrette smoke. I'll sometimes endure it for an hour or two to play a game of pool (though we usually go at off-times so the place is pretty empty)... and I've been to a club a couple of times to listen to a friend's band, but unless there's music (I want to hear) or pool (not those dinky bar-sized tables either) I really don't have much interest in going to places like that. :(

Currently it's hangin' at two and a quarter degrees from vertical, with a slight but not significant tending to the fore. That situation is expected to persist into tomorrow, though there is the possibility of a turn to the aft some time in the early morning. Overall conditions should be moderate or good.

Shorter than me, boyish haircut, stocky, very trendy, owns 58,243 pairs of shoes, valley-girl accent (where'd she get this in Houston??), going to a Baptist University, orders "diet coke" everywhere, wears glitter on her face, can't get a guy to go out with her more than twice... she didn't know who Osama bin Ladin was when I asked her two weeks ago, either. And she doesn't understand the concept of "No, you can't borrow my computer this second because I'm trying to talk to someone.

I afraid I had you pegged as an only child, lonely, making pictures of yourself, wearing ridiculous costumes only because you had no-one to provide the healing balm of mockery. I was, it seems, painfully wrong.

You must move out of your parents' house. Immediately.

I was not, incidentally, attempting to contact a potential spouse with my initial inquiry. The search for a liflelong companion is an activity that can be pursued to great advantage in any of the clean, healthy taverns scattered across the free world; the internet is good only for false starts, and for the aforementioned healing balm of mockery.

as a matter of fact, for some reason I still haven't figured out, I got put through all kinds of emotional/physical abuse and they didn't. (They're both as normal as they look.) Sister likes "Friends" and brother watches WWF every night. Oh well.

It's worth thinking about another alternative. (3.00 / 2) (#59)
by Anonymous Reader on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 09:29:27 PM PST
If the USA is anything like the United Kingdom (and I'm pretty sure they are pretty similar) This might be the issue:

research into the sexual habits of women in England found that 10% of children had a biological father who was not their mother's partner at the time of conception.

This could mean you are a living reminder of your mother's unfaithfulness to your 'father'.

The resentment of the unfaithfulness could manifest itself as emotional/physical abuse. It is quite a common thing apparently.

Black cowboy boots, black socks, black boot cut jeans, a black leather belt, black thong underwear, black sports bra (the kind w/ the wires give me chest pain), a black babydoll t-shirt, a black waistcoat, black gloves (sometimes), a black hat (sometimes), a necklace with mushroom beads and a black collar.

It feels pretty good. You get used to thong underwear after awhile, and the boots are comfy and you never have to worry about tying your shoelaces.

You didn't want to have coffee, so I'm not bothering to try any more!

"Ars longa, vita brevis...Art is long, life is short."

No you didn't. It was my suggestion (4.00 / 4) (#38)
by zikzak on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 08:42:25 PM PST
I still don't want to have coffee with you. However, I've been doing a lot of thinking about this (almost 47 seconds now), and I have decided that we should have sex.

Now wait, hear me out.

I'm not suggesting this because I find the idea of sex with you appealing. I will concede that you are moderately photogenic, but I am personally not attracted to you in the slightest. I simply think it would be an interesting development if you and I were to engage in copulation.

Let's face it, eventually you're going to have to have sex with someone from your online activities. I figure it might as well be me. Why? Well, quite a few reasons.

First, it is much safer for you to have sex with me than any of the 14 year old hanger-ons that follow you about. I don't really want anything more from the experience other than to be able to say that I had sex with jin wicked. Once.

Second, I live relatively close. bc may have the European credentials, but he'll never fly to the US just to have sex (at least I hope he wouldn't). qpt has also shown no real interest in making the trip to Houston to consumate his love for you.

I, on the other hand, will even offer to come pick you up and bring you to Austin for the deed. We can't do it at your house because you live with your parents. I suppose we could just get a motel room, but that's really not my scene. You'll have to take a bus back home or something, though, because I hate driving right after having sex.

Third, I'm not expecting much from the experience. You will be under no presure to perform, and will be free to just lie on your back for a bit and think of other things.

Sure, the whole thing will be distasteful to both of us while happening. But think of how exciting it will be to talk about afterwards! It would really liven up the diary section here on Adequacy, and I think you and I should make the sacrifice for all the other readers out there. It's the least we can do.

Too late. (3.00 / 2) (#52)
by jin wicked on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 09:04:27 PM PST
I've already had sex with someone I met online. I've been having sex with him for almost two years now. You'd have to ask him if he'd let me, and even supposing he would, you'd still have to make me want to. But anyway, bc told me what you look like so I didn't really even want to have coffee anymore.

But thanks for being so considerate!

Let us review:
  • Owns Erasure CD
  • Takes pride in playing "real AD&D"
  • Has penchant for British spelling and phrasing, despite suburban American existence
  • Loudly proclaims dislike of Marilyn Manson, while spelling name correctly
  • Claims to like "Romance and Victorian-era classical music"

And that's just on the "not a goth" page.

Mind you, I don't really think we've got a closeted worshipper-of-night here. Tremendously self-absorbed larval-stage American in stupid hat, yes, but nothing in particular to suggest that it will become a Goth when it pupates.

My spelling is CANADIAN, NOT BRITISH. British people spell things like tyre and licence and all other sorts of words I don't use. My spelling is CANADIAN. So much for stupid Americans...y,all see the letter "u" and just assume it's different so it must be British.

AND YES I SAID Y'ALL.

by RobotSlave on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 09:06:33 PM PST
There is no such thing as Canadian spelling. None.

There are a lot of Canadians who use some British spellings in an effort to distance themselves from Americans, but the gravitational pull of America is too great, so they end up with an awkward jumble that makes them look like so many inept, pretentious, suburban, American anglophiles. Which they are, as Canada is a suburb of America.

The whole rigamarole is especially tedious in Victoria and Vancouver, cities located in a province schizophrenically named "British Columbia."

And y'all can stick that in your ten-gallon top hat and take it to the bank, cowpoke.

Actually... (3.66 / 3) (#18)
by jin wicked on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 07:56:05 PM PST
The "not a goth" page someone posted was just a joke; I wrote it a long time ago but then was bored awhile back and made it's own little graphics. I don't really have anything against goths, but me being called a goth is pretty much an internet-only thing. No one who has met me in person and spoken with me for any length of time at all has ever thought of calling me goth, regardless of what I was wearing.

My makeup isn't really all that outstanding; I used to be in drama and the black around my eyes helps accentuate facial expressions because I sometimes do improv "acting" type stuff when I'm out in public to get a laugh out of people or make them curious...someone awhile ago said I look like a muppet, and in some ways I sort of do I guess. (Big eyes, very animated.) The eyeliner got a bit more pronounced at the boyfriend's request. Other than that I just wear alot of black, but mostly because I don't like colours and black is a classy colour. White gets dirty easily, but if I could afford to have a white hat as well as a black one, it's possible that I'd dress up in solid white. But probably not. The first time I did anything with charcoal I'd look like I fell down a chimney. I'm not discussing why I wear my hat; that's a sworn secret. ;)

Um...I guess I consider myself more of a big cartoon. I like to entertain people. Probably the only reason I ever find being called "goth" offensive is that the term implies a kind of seriousness about my demeanor that I just don't have. When I am serious, it's usually about politics or something else that isn't typically what you'd associate with the gothic image.

Or you can ignore me right now because I'm heavily medicated. :)

I just want you to know (3.00 / 2) (#47)

that while I don't mind bickering with you, I think your comments regarding Anthrax and box cutters/terrorism are entirely inappropriate. Can you find some other way of ridiculing me that doesn't involve the recent death of thousands of people?

While this is not exactly a fascinating thread, I think it should be continued in an attempt to smash the little comment boxes down to single-character widths. Please continue.

This is certainly the longest thread i've ever participated in. Especially considering the lack of content, other then Jin Wicked trying to send me Anthrax, it is amazing it got this far.
