Behind the scenes, adequacy has been courted by various advertisers for several months. However, being a site of noted integrity, we decided to wait until we could advertise a product that all the editorial staff could endorse without fear of hypocrisy. A product we would all enjoy, and adore. When hypefoods gave us an offer to advertise their popular Hypermints with Caffeine Crystals, we were overjoyed to accept. Their mints are wonderfully tasty, and really pack a punch. From extensive trials, I have noticed they make me more quick witted, friskier, and fresher of breath - a wonderfully advantageous combination for wooing the ladies!

In other general meta-ish site news, we have installed a special AdequacyChat software system in the Chat page. It uses Java, or something.

I'm sure there is other meta type news, but I can't remember what it is now. Oh, we might be getting supah-powerful hardware upgrades. What fun. Our server monkeys are salivating.

Selling-outs! (2.00 / 3) (#1)
by Anonymous Reader on Mon Feb 18th, 2002 at 06:38:20 PM PST
You are the disgust-making selling-outs! On no clean ground do you walk now, your shoe in filth!

Never the banner clicked, no-one cares!

Hah!

This is all your fault. (5.00 / 2) (#2)

Adequacy.org has been driven to this by selfish, narcissistic readers such as yourself, who spend all their time leeching bandwidth from their servers whilst contributing nothing but silly complaints like this. The editors, once loving, caring, philanthropists who merrily shared their wisdom freely with the Internet as a whole, have been turned into mangled, tired, overworked men and women. Months upon months of sleepless nights tirelessly producing content and maintaining the powerful hardware which runs this site, all so that thankless nimrods like you can tear it down, have broken them. As it is now, they are paying for your ability to humiliate them.

As for the banner ads, I say it's about time that the editors were able to profit off their venture. With new hardware and a steady stream of income at their disposal, all those manhours they've spent in the past six months to get this site going will finally pay off. Hopefully there is still hope for them to return the loving, caring people they once were. I know the editors to be humble, grounded people; they will always be true to their roots. To accuse them of "selling out" is absurd.

Unlike other websites, adequacy's editors argued for months, and struggled with our consciences before we would allow advertizing on this site.

The fear was that by entering the vulgar world of commerce, adequacy would lose some of the editorial independence that makes it what it is.

That is why we carefully vetted our potential advertizers, and only selected those whose products we felt we could unreservedly recommend.

So in the words of Malcom X - "No Sell Out".

I heard Apple's porting OS X to the Intel platform. Finally, the stability and reliability of a Linux-based operating system, available on the PC! This is what you're talking about when you mention upgrades, right? I'm excited!

Apple may have already ported OS X to Intel (which I doubt), but I wouldn't hope too much to see it someday on a PC.
OS X is not linux-based. Repeat : OS X is not linux-based, and doesn't owe anything, not a line of code, to Linux.

OS X is not linux-based. Repeat : OS X is not linux-based, and doesn't owe anything, not a line of code, to Linux.

There are many reasons why this is so, principally Apple's resolve to publish an OS that actually works well.

So that's the reason they chosed Mach and FreeBSD. Well done.

Everyone knows that the PC/Microsoft experience is like sticking needles in your eyeballs, and yet for the last ten years at least, there has been an alternative that is altogether pain-free.

Yes, I am talking about the easy-to-use, don't-have-to-be-a-propellerhead-geek-rocket-scientist-to-use-it, no-noisy-active-cooling MACINTOSH range.

Lets face it, you PC users enjoyed all that messing around with IRQs and DMAs and BIOSes. It made you feel 'tech-savvy'. Meanwhile, real people with real work to do in the advertizing and creative industries were using MACS and loving the simplicity and ease-of-use that it the trademark of the Apple product range.

Only MASOCHISTS use PCs, and there is nothing stopping you from making your next machine a MACINTOSH.

Why do you hate honest business? (1.66 / 3) (#11)

Do you honestly suggest that the Paragon of American Ingenuity, created by honest, hardworking engineers at real American Fortune 100 companies like Intel and IBM, is inferior to a steaming pile of excrement cobbled together from used television guts in a garage by hardware PIRATES!?

Sir, I believe that you are tr*****g. May I remind you that such illegal hacker activities are not tolerated here at Adequacy.

Of the gy who was responsible for the creation of the PC at IBM. He is most known for having said the PC was a devilish architecture and the worst thing he had ever done in his life.

...making your next machine a MACINTOSH

In my case that sentence would read:

...making your next machine another MACINTOSH

I own three and run Mac OS X on the one that can.

But thanks for the suggestion.
