Subject: Your Adequacy Submision

Dear Justin466dn3,

We at Adequacy.org are always intrigued by the thought processes of the developmentally disabled. We feel that it would help the advancement of science if you could explain how a 403 error indicates the presence of lunix.

Are you aware of the fact that Apache runs on operating systems other than lunix?

Have you ever heard of Solaris, Tru64, HP-UX, SCO, IRIX, AIX, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, OS X and Windows NT/2000?

Are you aware that due to the virtual memory management bugs in the 2.4.X kernels, all of these operating systems offer better stability than lunix?

Did you know that according to http://securityfocus.com, all of these operating systems have had fewer reported vulnerabilities than Red Hat lunix?

Are you aware that more website defacements occur on lunix boxes than any other operating system?

Are you some kind of idiot?

Do you know what a rhetorical question is?

Needless to say, you've earned a place in our hall of shame.

Yours,
--Peter Johnson

Well it is running Unix... (none / 0) (#1)
by Compnski on Sat Jun 22nd, 2002 at 09:59:39 AM PST
I don't know your position on unix, but a query of the server header retuns:
nitiating server query ...
Looking up IP address for domain: www.adequacy.org
The IP address for the domain is: 66.180.229.40
Connecting to the server on standard HTTP port: 80
[Connected] Requesting the server's default page.
The server returned the following response headers:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Sat, 22 Jun 2002 08:51:56 GMT
Server: Apache/1.3.26 (Unix)

Meaning that you are running apache on unix. I don't know how other operating systems (Expect windows) return tags, but you are running some unix based box.

Frankly, I am amazed - no, appalled - that you raped Adequacy's servers like that. I suggest you pay a visit here and take a look at Paragraph 3. You, my friend, have just violated Adequacy's Terms of Service.

I hope the editors take corrective action to ensure no further abuse goes on.

ummmm let me explain something (none / 0) (#12)

he was in no way doing anything illegal with that, port 80 is a public port and when you use your browser to connect to this site it returns the same info he just got except you don't see it because your browser processes it

You clearly have not read adequacy's terms of service, have you ?

You are just unable to appreciate the humour (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by Q on Mon Jun 24th, 2002 at 09:03:08 AM PST
I think it is obvious that the highly intelligent Editorial staff of Adequacy just wishes to joke a little, in the small free time they have while not leading humanity's intellectual edge.

I mean, do you really expect this
Server: Apache/1.3.26 (Unix)
to be true?

Look at the version number. It is crystal clear that Adequacy Editors make a humorous reference to the buggy Open Sores software called "Apache," specifically its need to be constantly patched and upgraded to close the so-called "holes" (a term mostly known in the hacker community that use Lunix).

I am sure that Adequacy Editors use trusted HTTP servers, whose stability and security is well-known to the experts.

Apache is not real? (none / 0) (#5)

Please check these sites

http://www.apache.org

and

http://www.netcraft.com/survey/

I was just wondering... are the people that make most of these unheard of comments just full it or are these peoples actual beliefs?

Thanks
Tom

I would be delighted to answer your questions, if only I knew their meaning.

What does "full it" mean, and how can people be "actual beliefs"? Why do you use such a strange language? Are you a hacker? I thought hackers use words like "l77t" and "L3n1x".

Tom, Adequacy is not a forum for hackers! Please, use proper language, and experts will explain everything to you.

Netcraft reports that it is running on FreeBSD. FreeBSD forms the basis for both Windows NT/2000/.net and MacOSX.

It also has a better security track record than linux, though it is not as easy to use and requires a more highly skilled administrator to run the site.

you are sidestepping the issue (none / 0) (#6)
by Gandalf Grey on Tue Jun 25th, 2002 at 08:47:15 AM PST
even though Justin466dn3 may look like a complete idiot you are sidestepping the question. It has been proven, without a doubt that you are running Apache server, even though you have <a href http://www.adequacy.org/?op=displaystory;sid=2002/4/5/235930/1954 Insulted</A> apache repetedly and denyed the fact that it is run on over 50% of the webservers in the world.

Missing poll option (none / 0) (#7)
by Anonymous Reader on Tue Jun 25th, 2002 at 09:03:52 AM PST
The correct answer to the poll, which should be "I do not understand Adequacy and I am a whiny baby", is for some reason not present in the list of poll options. Unfortunately it appears too late to correct this problem. I suggest that you carefully proofread your submissions including the poll options to avoid such an obvious error in the future.

Offensive (none / 0) (#15)
by Anonymous Reader on Wed Aug 7th, 2002 at 12:33:12 PM PST
You're insulting insinuations comparing the author of this biting and incisive article are completely misplaced, not to mention totally offensive.

However, I believe that you may have been unaware that comparing people you dislike to the mentally handicapped is considered offensive in most respectible social circles, so this time I won't go to the NetAuthority. However, in the future please be advised that such hate-mongering will not be tolerated. You must learn self control or get off the Internet.
