But today, C-SPAN had live gunifire and it almost looked like violence. Surprised, I watched. It was some
good propaganda; the U.S. Army's counter-terrorism
Delta Force was demonstrating their mettle to the press and
Defense Sec. Rumsfeld.
Anyway, the troops were going to take out some human-shaped targets in a building, and secure the building. This was a live-fire demonstration of actual techniques. So I figured it would be cool. Some troops drove in, laying on top of a truck, firing at targets on the roof. The truck screeched to a halt, the troops threw grenades in the window, jumped in the second story, shot some targets, more grenades, and soon all the targets were dead.
I've seen stuff like this on movies. The elite troops rush in, automatic rifles go off, stuff explodes, and it is cool. But this was like the C-SPAN version of violence. While more exciting than budget committee meetings, this was nothing like the image of Delta Force given to me by Hollywood.
Yet again, a reminder hits me square on the head: war probably IS Hell, and Hollywood is full of a bunch of liars.
