  Leave Linux to the Geeks

See here.

There are many problems with this article, especially after you get past the title. The one that offends me the most is that this pussy panders to the geeks--I'm guessing he's afraid he'll be on the receiving end of a Mad Geek-esque freak out.

But as long as you don't read anything after the title, you're in the clear.

Great title! (5.00 / 1) (#1)

Says it all really. Personally, I'd go further:
  • Leave computer science to computer scientists.
  • Leave art to artists.
  • Leave music to musicians.
  • Leave cooking to chefs.
  • Leave stealing to thieves.
Just think of the possibilities, man! If we only did what we were good at, just think how much better this world would be!

Yes. It should be noted... (none / 0) (#2)

that your first suggestion is not a mere rehash of the story's title. Just wanted to point that out to all the delusional g**ks out there.

I second that. Furthermore, (5.00 / 1) (#3)

the geeks should take good notice of my final suggestion, as well.

The items in the list can be turned into questions:
  • What is computer science?
  • What is Art?
  • What is Music?
  • What is Food?
  • What is Stealing?
from four of the questions different opinions can be drawn and a decent debate can flow. However, the fifth item is not only devoid of any such interest, but is also the only one that geeks have any success with.

Computer Science is what Computer Scientists research.
Art is what Artists create.
Music is what Musicians perform.
Food is what Chefs prepare.

Quod erat demonstrandum, baby.

but Computer Science, Music, Art, and Food can also generate a huge amount of pretensious bullshit. Something you don't often find with stealing.

Erm...wait on...I forgot for a moment.

Well I agree with at least most of the article. Frankly though there are really nice distros like Desktop/LX from Lycoris (formerly Redmond Linux) and even Mandrake (Desktop/LX is better though). It's still not ready for Joe Schmo's desktop. Will it ever be? Hey if a company wants to devote the time and effort then fine. Just don't call Red Hat when you fuck up installing Mandrake (they use different installers and setups differ).

All in all it's for familiarity not everyday users. It's the same with any OS. Hell, I watch users struggle helplessly moving from Windows to MacOS. Just make sure you know what Linux is (the Adequacy.org bunch obviously don't) and isn't before you take the leap.

Go away or I will replace you with a very small shell script.

system. I just want my machines to do what the fuck they're sposed to do. In other words, what the fuck I tell 'em to do.

My women can do this. So why can't my machines?

Now, unless you have a positive suggestion to remedy this distressing situation. fuck off and die.
