Worried about all the trolls on K5 ?

I don't know if any of you have noticed this, but I seem to be seeing a lot more of what can only be described as trolls over at kuro5hin. I wonder why this is happening ? Is it because of a broken moderation system ? That's what created the legions of hobbyist and careerist trolls over at slashdot.

I just hope it does not go the way of immature imbeciles. I liked to think that k5 had a better class of moron than slashdot, but sadly k5 seems to have become a victim of its own popularity, and the bell curve.

Thank goodness there is still one place that is free of trolls.

And what can I do to avoid them?

Get under a bridge, and put peanut butter on your nose. They hate that. HTH.

Adequacy Policy (none / 0) (#2)

Adequacy's no-troll policy is simply wonderful, but I'm afraid it has left me a bit naïve about detecting troll posts. Can someone provide a list of known K5 troll handles (or as they seem to be called there, "NICs") so I will know whom to avoid? The only obvious troll account I have discerned is "trhurler".

K5 trolls (none / 0) (#6)

Some of the names to watch out for:

pwhysall - Manages to get a few stories to the front page, often subtly insulting all the regular posters

Spiralx - More of a slashdot troll, but he is often seen on K5 too.

Rusty - Likes to trick users into believing that he runs the site.

Nobbystiles, Codemonkey_uk, Merekat, Wiredog, squigly - all differnt ones of Spiralx's assumed identities. Watch out for any of these people, especially on K5.

Troll country (5.00 / 3) (#3)
by PotatoError on Sun May 26th, 2002 at 06:34:22 AM PST
Me and my friends were wondering what the internet would look like if done in virtual reality.

We decided that in the middle of internet city would be the big names. A huge tower would represent Ebay, in which many millions of people trading in trivial items. Amazon would be a huge shopping mall.

As you travel outwards from the city centre (using roads owned by Google), you would come across the red light district - many miles of derilict clothes shops, abandoned gimmik stores and a notorious strip bar called Yahoo Chat.

At any point you may wish to decend into the city sewers - here you will find tidal waves of shit. In internet city, shit is represented by pop up Ads. Deep in the bowels of the city's sewers you would find dodgy places offering "warez".

Travelling out of city bounds is not a wise idea. You could fall into all sorts of danger. One such danger is a bridge just outside the city labled K5. It looks tempting to travel over it but when you do, hundreds of trolls jump up from below and take turns to sodomize you.

Of course, Adequacy is represented by the royal palace right smack in the middle of the city.

K5 is dying (none / 0) (#4)
by Anonymous Reader on Sun May 26th, 2002 at 07:19:57 AM PST
Killed by the trolls. Hopefully this will create a mass exodus of the good people from K5 to here.

I am sure the editors here will give them a warm welcome as there's nothing as good as your typical K5 diary.
