Misuse of "American," and further observ (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by moriveth on Sun Oct 7th, 2001 at 03:29:52 PM PST
Surely you realize that Canadians and other non-USian Americans had no part in the creation of the Taliban.
To return to the question, England, reduced to little more than the US's lapdog in recent decades, has minimal relevance in current international politics. Even its domestic terrorists are a pale and ineffectual shadow of, for example, the US's McVeigh. Consequently, what international terrorist would bother targeting England, eliciting little more than a collective snore from the Americas and Continental Europe? There is little doubt, however, that if even a mediocre terrorist attack were directed at England, the sudden international prestige would be largely welcomed by the population. I would not be shocked if Tony Blair secretly orders such an attack. |

Surely you realize that Canadians and other non-USian Americans had no part in the creation of the Taliban Bet they did. Anyway, surely you must recognise that Canada is not a proper country (it belongs to us British), and therefore you are all in one big camp. And if you are referring to 'other' non-USian countries, I can only guess that you're referring to Mexico or something. No shit they had nothing to do with the Taliban - they were all whacked out on dope trying to climb the fences along the US border to get in to be bothering about pissing off the Soviets in 1989. To return to the question, England, reduced to little more than the US's lapdog in recent decades, has minimal relevance in current international politics. Even its domestic terrorists are a pale and ineffectual shadow of, for example, the US's McVeigh. If that's the case, why the fuck are we still on the UN security council, and in the G7, NATO and the rest of Europe is begging for us to fall in and sign upto federalism? You see, the thing is, Britain has a foreign policy that other people take notice of. We will get involved, and constantly do. The US however, doesn't listen to anybody. Except recently when they realised the only way any of this 'war on terrorism' shit was going to work was if the rest of the World accepted it. The reason Britain (please, it's not just England), gets accused of being the lapdogs is because we're the only people who will talk to the US in a semi-respectful tone, and everybody else comes and pushes us in a 'you go and talk to them' way. Very funny. In actual fact, terrorism is so common place, that you're right it would produce a collective snore. Nobody cares, because it is not a rare occurence. As for the population welcoming such action - well, I think you MUST be smoking crack (sic) to think that. I don't particularly want my home or office being blown to bits. However I won't run around like a child declaring war on a country that may have nothing to do with it. As for the 'mediocrity' of terrorism in Britain, the body count is currently around the 5,000 mark since the troubles began, and rising. A number not that dissimilar to the WTC attack. |

Yeah, whatever.
I'd like to see you guys take some "ownership" over Canada.. It'd be alot like the revolutionary war, except real quick, and nobody from the western hemisphere would die.. |

God it's hard not to. Of course us Americans have to clean up the messes you make (cough cough Israel cough) but everyone certainly notices. We will get involved, and constantly do. Which explains why things are constantly fucked up. Except recently when they realised the only way any of this 'war on terrorism' shit was going to work was if the rest of the World accepted it. I guess that Gulf War coalition thing was a mirage. As for the 'mediocrity' of terrorism in Britain, the body count is currently around the 5,000 mark since the troubles began, and rising. A number not that dissimilar to the WTC attack. Seeing as how your 'troubles' with Ireland have been ongoing for 600 fucking years I don't think it compares to 6000 deaths in about an hour. |

Of course us Americans have to clean up the messes you make (cough cough Israel cough) but everyone certainly notices. I think, by anybody's definition, Israel is most definitely not cleaned up. In fact, some would argue that Israel should be a 3rd option on the poll, since the state of Israel violates human rights, illegally occupies territory, and harbors known war criminals. --legolas |

The point is that Britain created the situation that the US is trying (however lamely) to set aright... and for our attempts at fixing the limey's mess we get planes rammed into our buildings. |

We Americans did not purposely train the Taliban to be our enemy. We thought they would help our quest for world domination.
I also can't believe people would rather be bombed by the Taliban when the IRA has some of the sexiest female terrorists in the world! If you've ever seen the episode of Witchblade where the female member of the IRA kills Sara's boyfriend, you know how hot they are. Besides, my future wife is also part Irish. Simply put, anybody who would rather be bombed by the Taliban is an idiot. Guardian angel, heavenly friend, walk with me 'til the journey's end. |

they also shot a freaking missile at MI-6 headquarters! Come on, even if you work there, you've got to admit that's pretty damn cool. It's like a scene out of James Bond or something. And no one was killed (well, not in that attack) so we can all laugh it off without feeling too guilty. |

Because even if they are gassing you, they speak with such a nice accent. Plus, Sinead O'Connor is much hotter than some screeching Arabic woman in a shawl. |

They are only mildly muderous, content to cause only upto 200 deaths in one attack and they don't carry out attacks on the USA which we all know is the sacred home of Freedom and Democracy and is a beacon to the rest of the world.
