Very dangerous poll (5.00 / 1) (#10)
by seventypercent on Mon Jul 22nd, 2002 at 09:24:25 PM PST
Disclaimer: I don't know who wrote this poll. However, you need to be aware that Dante's vision of hell is his and his alone. Scripture warns of a lake of fire; it does not tell of nine progressively-warmer lakes in which the unsaved are tossed on the basis of "how good they were." In reality, there is no difference between a "virtuous pagan" and a "non-virtuous pagan"; there is a clear and distinct line between those who are saved and those who are unsaved, and no further subdivisions are necessary (or allowed.) All have fallen short of the glory of God, and we are saved by faith... not works. Dante's Inferno might be a treasured work, but it is also a classic example of Middle Age ignorance. At the end of the day, one must realize that it is hundreds of years old (going on a thousand) and only a cretin would interpret it literally. Instead, I implore the readership of Adequacy to rely on Scriptural principles and realize that there is only one way to avoid the lake of fire. Dante Alighieri may be a classic literary figure, but he is not the final arbiter of who enters the Kingdom of God. -- Red-blooded patriots do not use Linux. |

The bible tells us few things about Hell, but we can be assured of two things. First as you mentioned, scripture warns of a lake of fire. Second, that France is Hell. |

Fool, as all true Christians, those of us who reject the Anti-Dantean Heresy, recognise, The Divine Comedy is inspired scripture. Come, at least it's cooler than the Book of Mormon, Laviticus, or that damn Poisonwood Bible. |

Dante's Inferno might be a treasured work, but it is also a classic example of Middle Age ignorance Nowadays people are well educated and know that there is only Lake Of Fire and nothing more. By the way, Dante's Inferno will live on through the ages, which is not the case with your comment. ------------------------- God Hates Us All ! © Slayer |
