 Ok How I Wish...

You know, if my parents had worried that I was going to become a 'hacker' and banned me from the computer (rather than forcing to work even more on it to fix it whenever they broke it) then perhaps I wouldn't have wasted so much of my teenage years.

I could have learned to express myself with music, developed my writing talent, become a more literate and informed individual, put more effort into my quest for art on the stage. It certainly would have saved me a few close calls with the police and the company of some rather unsavory characters.

I would probably also have gotten laid more often...

Chalk up another big failure for the big EA. November has come and gone, and along with it National Novel Writing Month. I didn't even cross the ten-thousand work mark. I lose.

Then again, I'm also getting righteously laid on a regular basis right now, so perhaps it's a draw.

Perhaps I need a new theme: Electric Angst - The Failure to Be a Better Person.

I'm going to go read some texts on the Yoruba and Santeria faiths now. See you all later...

NaNoWriMo (none / 0) (#1)
by ucblockhead on Mon Dec 3rd, 2001 at 07:54:53 AM PST
Not everyone was meant to write fast. Some very famous and popular writers would not have succeeded at NaNoWriMo. (I'm thinking in particular of John Irving, who has talked about how he is unable to write at all fast, but there are many, many others.)

The advice I've heard many writers give (which, I admit, I've not personally taken) is to write daily, or near to it, and not worry about how much or how good the product is. Get the habit going. "NaNoWriMo" is a great gimmick to get that habit going, but very few "real" writers write a novel (or even a draft) in a month.

(Hell, I've been writing a novel for ten years, and only have twenty pages :) )

How's life been treating you (aside from the novel thingy)?

Ever coming back to GiZ?

Lots of stuff going on. I'm not sure about returning to GiZ, mainly just because I don't think I'd have time to write anything for it...

Yes, there will be singing. There will be singing about the dark times. -- Bertolt Brecht
