Eventually, I'm going to move out of my apartment. My girlfriend and I are interested in something closer to campus, somewhere a little larger, where she can have a dog like she's been wanting for years. Perhaps we'll rent a house, or get a condo. Now, there's only one problem about moving away from our current apartment complex, we'll lose our ethernet connection... |

The connection isn't perfect, the bandwidth is capped at 3mbps and I typically get <100kbps downloads. Still, it's fairly secure, reliable broadband, and it doesn't cost all that much.</p> Knowing that dialup is simply not an option, I have been looking for alternatives that would work at a new residence. Of course, those options are essentially DSL or a Cable Modem... Now, cable is cheaper, and I'd get digital cable, too (which I'm interested in.) Then again, with DSL, things are more secure, and if I'm willing to pay I can get better speeds, not to mention things like 5 static IPs and such. You have to pay a whole lot more, though. Well, totally changing the subject, we just had an administrator walk through our lab. It turns out that the person who's been managing the machines placed here had been utterly fucking up on several counts. We have machines that shouldn't be here, things have been appropriated poorly. Worst of all, I've done the setup for some of these things, based on (what I now know) are lies about what we were given. In general, the shit is fucked up. This lab is my job, really. If it ends up getting flushed, so do I. Then again, perhaps this will finally get things set straight. I always knew we were a bit too patchwork here, and perhaps if we can knock out the dead wood we'll be able to build things up properly. Technically, none of this is my fault. I don't know if I'm beyond reproach for what's happening, though. |
