Well, you've made it big.

Adequacy has been officially banned by my company's firewall/filter. I can no longer view this site from work. Adequacy has joined the ranks of porn, web-based e-mail, and this guy. [ADEQUACY PORN ALERT, by dmg. Do not click on the previous link unless you are comfortable viewing images of grossly distended anuses. Motherfucking Spork, please in future warn people of the content of sites you are linking to which contain controversial images like this. Adequacy is not afraid of controversy indeed it is our lifeblood, but please bear in mind we are a respectable website, read by many top executives and CEOs. We do not want to censor your link, but in future, please give a descriptive warning if you are going to link to controversial stuff like this.]>/b>

Why was Adequacy banned in my workplace?

Beats the shit out of me... only thing I can guess is that they looked at the logs, went to this site, and someone in IT got their panties in a wad and nixed us. Or, as is more likely, this site has been added to a list somewhere that my company subscribes to for its filtering service.

The authors of this site should feel proud. They are truly in the big leagues now.

Or something like that...

You should make your way past the firewall through an anonymous proxy and spend all of your idle hours at work staring Zen-like into the gaping maw that is goatse.cx.

I'll just wait for the next big virus to pound the shit out of the servers at work again, forcing them to take down the firewall and filters... free goatse.cx and hotmail for all!

Plus, I just never got the hang of those anonymizer/proxy sites... not to mention that most of those sites are blocked as well.

Hell, I can't even "Ask Jesus" anymore...

I am not who you think I am.

The U.S. is now along with Saudi Arabia and China one of the only places in the world that censors Internet traffic. Congratulations, your software industry is now officially communist. (See the other thread for more details.) This is just one more bit of proof that I'm right.

P.S. Filtering traffic in such a way would be unthinkable in a democracy. (I don't count the U.S. as a democracy.)

I'm just curious. Does there, according to you, exist a true democracy anywhere in the world today? If not, what would a true democracy look like? Can it coexist with a capitalistic system?

"True democracy?" (none / 0) (#9)

Isn't a "true democracy" a bit like a "true turkey sandwich"? This here is the problem, folks. "Democracy" isn't a philosophy; it's a daily lifestyle choice. One part of living a democratic lifestyle is not being censored in your Internet viewing preferences.

We know that Websense have just banned us because they think we're tasteless. Are you using Websense, or has another censorware company decided that they can't handle the sheer fucking controversy?

Uses 'Websense' and I can get through to this site OK. Blocks games and porn which I would prefer to access instead of adequacy....

Adequacy now unblocked by The Anonymizer. (none / 0) (#8)
by Craig McPherson on Wed Oct 10th, 2001 at 03:58:03 AM PST
For several weeks, Adequacy was blacklisted from the Anonymizer (a web-based "proxy" service), supposedly because of one of the Anonymizer's "random rolling blackouts" which block "random sites" for "two to three days." I was a bit suspicious of this, because Adequacy is hardly a "random site" and the blacklisting lasted far more than 2-3 days, but you can now access Adequacy through the Anonymizer again. You may not be able to post, though, because Anonymizer does cookie-blocking. As a bonus, the Anonymizer's free service no longer uses the infamous built-in "delay" (HTTP responses were delayed ~20 seconds to encourage you to upgrade to the pay service), so the Anonymizer now only slows you down to the speed of a 56K modem instead of slowing you down to the speed of alluminum foil wired between two serial ports with krazy glue.

...for the porn warning. I'm all for keeping the internet uncensored, but on a discussion site such as this one, I don't enjoy following a link being used to make a point, only to find it populated with distended anuses and pictures of limbless women being taken from behind.

But maybe that's just me.

We are going to be re-classified as an "alternative journal" in the next update of the Websense database, which should mean that we're unbanned. So will people please stop sending them abusive mail? Thanks.
